We visited Longwood Gardens last year. It was about 4 hours from our home so we made it a weekend excursion.
We watched fireworks that evening to the music of Rachmaninoff, what a great experience.
This is one of the main fountain areas.

I visited during the Philadelphia Flower Show in March (almost ten years ago) and loved the conservatories but missed all of the fountains in motion. I've always wanted to return to visit the gardens and see all of the fountains. Does anyone know the best time to visit? Look what they have planned for June 2012 http://www.longwoodgardens.org...
Can't really say as it depends on what you're looking to see. They are amazing with moving stuff around...even large evergreens with long tap roots. Christmas was a wonderland and July was fun with the fireworks...anytime really as there is always something new and exciting to see.
Each cloud has a silver lineing if only you look for it.

We went in July for the fireworks to the music of Rachmaninoff, spectacular!!! Want to go at Christmas one of these days, but we generally travel at Christmas outside the country.
