Does anyone else name their garden beds to keep track of where your plants are? My sister and I noticed as we were buying irises this year of the relationships between names so we started putting different ones that would work as far as color, height and blooming times together;

Showbiz (at this point but may change) has;

World Premier
Rock Star
Broadway
Act Three
Regards
Ritz
Showcase
Comic Opera
Kaila's Dance

"Who Done It";

Macho Hombre
and a pumpkin colored noid

With no name yet: (suggestions?)

Quasar
Flash of Light
Honor Flight
Eagle's Flight

Waterfall Mist

Child's Play:

You have really been creative in your bed naming. Love it. Mine are just descriptive notes for myself. Front garden - the one by the driveway, Tree Ring - duh, the one around the tree, Long Bed aka The ATP bed, a very long bed where many of my first ATP trade iris were planted, Nursery Bed - the back garden where lots of little starts were put to recover/grow up a bit and the Misawa Spoon bed where the iris are suprise box iris from Greg mixed with all iris with horns, spoons, POM's. Makes sense to me but hardly as creative as your beds.

My areas are named. It is part of the record showing where they are planted.

Wild iris rows
Iris walk
Park bed
Crow ridge
Thyme and thyme again - this was a bed of herbs before being planted with irises.

I'm about half "willy-nilly," and half totally anal ! My beds have "numbers", or "locations...re: Bed #1, bed # 9, "South Garden", "North Perennial bed", etc., etc.,.....but bed's # 6 & # 8, are all "Indians", beds #3 & #5 are all Re's Bed #7, and South garden are all NOIDS.

Sounds like everyone has a system of some kind to help. At my age I need it! I have a few more 'up my sleeve'. Rolling my eyes. Being in Apple Valley I plan on a western / desert bed. The home and final resting place of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and every street, road or lane named for an American Native tribe it just makes sense! And of course I have the historic bed but no 'official' name yet.

Pat, I grew up in Santa Ana, CA and I remember going to Apple Valley with mom and dad. We would camp out that way. Do they still have apple farms? Dad mentioned once years back about the decline of them.

I have names for my beds...

Driveway
Bedroom
Front walk
Over by the fence in front
Over by the fence in back by Steve and Donna
The wild bed
Over by the back wall
Memorial bed
Oval bed
Buckthorn bed
Behind the shed
Over by the fence by Jim's
Behind the garage

Wow, I have more than I thought. Hilarious!

The tree ring will be themed, though...Country N Western. A few iris will go in there. Rustler, Country Dance and War Chief, so far. If I can get the wild bed cleared of sweet peas and coreopsis, that will be the Spaced Out bed. Iris Starship and daylily Alpha Centauri are slated to go there.

We name our beds by location. the most fun is across from lower & upper terrace (made out of 2 small slopes & across the path) is the penthouse. It has mainly SDBs.

Zencat....almost all the apple trees are gone Crying they started that to get homestead property. The climate is right but periods of drought have taken their toll.

I still have some plain named beds but with almost 30 it was getting too confusing. I bought daylilies this year- enough to fill 3 beds and they are probably too crowded- but just put them together. Will have to adjust them when they need divided. I'm sure they are feeling left out.

The penthouse is a good name. Mine are all flatlanders. Sticking tongue out

Everyone else needs to get creative. ...

I used to have descriptions like:

Garage

Stump
Fence Driveway
Inside Driveway
Sat

This got clunky, so I switched to and alphabetical system (well, I am in the transition to switch-some things are hard to give up!)

Toooooo funny, Jan. I grow bottle trees, yes I said it, and when people visit my garden they often ask where I get all my bottles. I tell them, with a straight face, all my friends are winos. Their reactions are wonderful!!!

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I'll have to get new friends! I love those bottle trees. We just bought wine escapades and it has already bloomed; my sister loves the broken colors. We have several now and they may have to go in a 'splish-splash' garden.
