My seedlings were three inches tall and they started turning brown on tips and then croaked! What am I doing wrong?

You could have a condition called dampening off. They rot when they are over watered. I lost a lot from that when I tried growing them indoors, so now I just plant them in pots outdoors and they do much better.

Can you describe their growing conditions?

What are you using for soil?

Do you think they could have gotten too dry at some point?

What do you mean you put in pots outdoors? What does that do as far as watering? Not to dry. I'm using miracle grow seed starting mix.

I'm so upset!!!!! I can't figure out what's wrong. I opened the cups of dead ones and dirt seemed perfectly moist, not wet. I read one blog that said chlorine water from tap can kill?????

Maybe too much Miracle Gro? I use regular (good quality) organic potting soil, and only amend with manure or alfalfa (occasionally Milorganite). I make sure of good drainage by adding perlite sometimes.....

I wondered the same as Kyla (too much fertilizer), there is already fertilizer in MG seed starting mix - have they been fertilized in addition to that? There looks to be white stuff on the soil surface which is what excess fertilizer salts look like, or is that an optical illusion in the pic?

I don't know if you were asking me the question Christy about putting them in pots outdoors. I start my seeds in garden pots around mid May here. I just plant them in pots and let them germinate naturally outdoors. Them seem to do better that way.
