I really want to do more Iris gardening in the furture, but honestly I really don't know much about them. never got into them until recently. ive been looking into it more often lately however... im wondering if theres a specific variety that will handle our constantly wet and cool seattle winter weather without having root rot issues? or will they all?

There are lots of folks that successfully grow Iris in the PNW. I think as long as the drainage is good, you should be ok for the most part. If not, there are Siberians, Japanese, louisianas, and others that like wet feet.
Find a club in your area. Most have sales in the summer, and it's a good opportunity to meet and talk to folks about Iris. You've got king county Iris society in the Seattle area.. Check out their website.

Yes to all of the above and there are also Pacific Coast iris that are native to the PNW. Check out some vendors in you area and see what's growing in your neighborhood. That will give a good indication of what you can grow.

Mt Pleasant Iris grow many Siberian, Japanese & species. It will have National convention people visiting this week followed by a weekend of Siberian iris people. After than I am sure that Chad Harris will be available to answer questions.
