Wouldn't this corkscrew willow in the snow make a great 1000 piece puzzle?

I never get tired of fresh fallen snow photos! WA, despite the predictions for a harsh La Nina winter, has had a sorry lack of snow this winter. The corkscrew willow is fabulous and I have to ask how old/tall/wide it is? That should be a staple in any cutting garden.

What's the building with all the windows?

Believe it or not, I started several corkscrew willows from 12" sticks that I bought at a local garden show. Rooted them in water and away they went. The one in the photo is so large that the root system is now tearing up our driveway. I just stuck it there in lousy fill dirt from our garage and it loves it. It is easy 30' and the trunk is massive. We have to take 8" limbs off when then start to hang over the drive. Steve makes walking sticks from it.

I have another that I plopped in my sun garden and it is about 20 + feet as well. Only drawback is they are quite dirty with the neverending leaves.

The Corkscrew Willow sounds like my kind of plant/tree. Awesome carving by your DH too.

Thanks, if you want some I have plenty. All you have to do it recut what I send you and root it in water and then plop in the ground? If you want cmail your addy! I will cut you some new in the spring if you just keep reminding me, you know, retired and the memory goes

I will indeed keep that in mind ( as long as I can LOL.) It seems like I bought some curly willow one year, but I managed to kill it off somehow. If it enjoys lousy soil, that's one thing I can accommodate easily! Thanks for the offer.

I have plenty to go round and it does love crummy soil. I can't believe how huge the one at the driveway has become. Only problem is the droppings of the leaves and curly sticks when the wind blows.

Great winter photos...I have a curly willow once - also rooted from a twig from an arrangement. I plopped it temporarily in my vegetable planted, left it there for two years, got to about 4 feet, and I dug it out with the intention of potting it in a large pot and try to keep the size to a reasonable size that way. Totally forgot to plant it, and it eventually died. I have not bought another arrangement in the last 5 years since I started my own yard of cut flowers. Too cheap

So, I'll take a couple of small twigs too if you get around to cutting a few.

And Candee, how wonderful that you get to retire and have all the time in the world to do exactly what you want!!

Almost forgot - I am moving my bed of bilbergia from my backyard to the front where I have gotten rid of my lawn. Either of you want some? It is probably not winter hardy outside in Maryland, but maybe it will survive in Washington?

Diane, just remind me about the willow, you know how forgetful I can be. In the spring I will do some cuttings for both of you.

Yes retirement is great, I am loving every minute of it and it is winter for heavens sake! Can't imagine having spring and summer to do as I please, bring it on I am ready!!!
