I ordered maypop seeds online (I think amazon) from a couple of suppliers a couple of years ago. The vines are growing fine but I'm only getting small white flowers blooming that look like a small morning glory. Is this normal for the beginning of this plant? I read that it takes a couple of years for it to start developing the flower but I'm just curious. It's weird that I ordered for a couple of suppliers and they are all doing the same.

Sounds like something else may have taken up residence there. Are you able to share a pic of flower & leaf?

I'm afraid I agree with Tiffany, we do need to see some pictures to be sure what you have growing, but it doesn't sound like Maypop. The flowers should look like passionflowers, no matter how young the vine is.

Think this may be some kind of Morning Glory.In the first photo, looking at the very bottom right of the photo, does anyone see the distinctive shape of a seedling of a Morning Glory?

Heart shaped leaves, and little trumpet flowers that close at night, I'm saying Morning Glory too.

Maypop (Passiflora incarnata)

Thank you so much. I've been confused about them for about 2 years now. So here's another question, how do I get rid of these. They are overtaking everything. I let them grow thinking they were maypop.

Windy, I would carefully weed out the Morning Glory in the area where you planted your Maypop seeds on the off chance that there might actually be a Maypop vine struggling along under the Morning Glory. MG twines around other plants and virtually smothers them, but Maypop is pretty vigorous. Watch for thicker straight (not twisting) stems and darker green, lobed leaves.

After that, my current favorite blanket weeding method is clear plastic. (only if there's nothing else under the MG's that you don't want to kill) Cover for a few days with painter's drop sheets and let the sun do the work. You will still have to clear them out but it's easier once they're dead.

BTw, do you remember what the seeds looked like that you thought were Maypop? Morning Glory seeds are about 1/4in. long, narrow, sort of triangular with one pointed end, and the Maypop seeds would have been flattish and rounded.

I honestly don't remember. I thought they were very small and round. I don't know if I was cheered and got the wrong seeds or somehow they migrated into my yard from somewhere else.
