I have been looking for one that matches the catalog
Both brecks and Schreiner have Matt McNames and both seem to add more blue to their "blue iris" pictures.

I look up people growing them and have unfiltered pictures and they are purple.
or is their camera picing up the color wrong?

I just want a blue iris either dark dark blue falls and lighter blue standered
or blue falls with lighter blue standard.
I know the black is just a very dark blue/purple

There are many irises in that pattern (they are called neglectas), but getting one with truly black falls and truly blue standards isn't easy. The closest I have seen, in commercially available irises at least, are probably Wicked Good and Dangerous Mood

The closest I've ever seen is this seedling

FWIW: Be careful where you order. A lot of mail order places dealing with lots of plants do not have true varieties mailed out; often the depend on growers elsewhere to send them. So what you want is not necessarily what you will get. Stick to known growers/sellers such as Schreiner or others in the vendor list on this forum.

Still a bit on the lavender side instead of a true blue, but this also comes close.

That does not look like Best Bet at all to me. I don't have it any more (I killed it too) but here it is when I did.
It was grown in a very shady spot, the top is usually lighter.

I was disappointed in my Matt McNames. This is the first year I have grown it and it was not as blue as depicted in vendors photos.

This was my first year with Dangerous Mood and it did not bloom. I hope it is more blue than MM. I have learned to buy from reputable vendors and to go to the iris wiki site and read the actual description of the iris. Most irises described as blue in catalogs are described as almost blue on the wiki site........ eye opener that.

Yep, that would be it. It is one of those that depends on soil conditions, light and so forth. Different conditions, different hues. Of course, most of them are affected that way so....

Habit is a very nice iris. It doesn't have blue standards, though. They are more in the lavender to violet range.
