Thanks for that link. I had already looked at all the Lily photos in the database and all over the internet until I was cross-eyed.
I just figured I'd post my Lily here as a pretty picture.

I love lilies and have been given the first one last year from a very special friend. It hasn't bloomed yet this year though. Only a little stick sticking out of the garden. Hopefully it will bloom soon.

I have no idea what its name is.

One little question though. I received a whole bunch of lily bulbs from a friend that I planted this weekend. Most of them are very tiny bulbs. How long do you think it will take for them to bloom. Can I expect any flowers this year? Thank you all for your comments.

LILINEWCAS, it's perhaps not the best angle to assess height from, but your lily looks rather short? I suspect this could be a dwarf Asiatic lily called 'Tiny Padhye'.
It's of course possible that there are similar cultivars, although this is a lily with a rather distinctive look.

As for how large your bulbs need to be to flower, well it depends on what cultivar you have gotten. Generally speaking Asiatic lilies flower from smaller bulbs then Orientals and so on. I think you probably got Asiatic or LA lily bulbs as they usually are quickest to increase. If we were to assume the bulbs you received indeed are Asiatic bulbs, they can flower from rather small size, especially the dwarf growing cultivars. For instance 'Tiny Padhye' are sold from 10-12 cm bulbs and they should already give several flowers http://www.vws-flowerbulbs.nl/.... Probably it could flower from even smaller bulbs, but if they really are "very tiny", then I think you will have to wait for next year. Asiatics grow quickly, on the other hand other types of lilies can be a lot slower to grow. Also of course it depends on how well you grow them.

I agree, 'Tiny Padhye'. I also agree with William regarding the bulblets. Just be patient with them and you will have more blooming lilies in a year or so.

Thank you so much for your responses. I truly appreciate it. Yes, it just might be a dwarf lily. It is rather small. I never thought of it being a dwarf lily but then again I'm a newbie at lily gardening. This weekend I did however also plant some mixed oriental lily bulbs and from what I read on the package these will grow quite high. I planted four bulbs on saturday and on sunday morning, i saw that the darn little squirrels had gotten away with two of my bulbs. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. So, I placed some type of wiring on top of the bulbs and see if this will discourage the little rascals from getting away with my bulbs.

I'm quite sure the bulbs I received last weekend, considering they were very tiny, will in fact be asiatic lilies. But that's ok. I'm sure they will be beautiful once they bloom, most probably next year. I can't wait!!!

Excited to see the first lily to bloom in my zone 5 garden this year. It's Linda May, bred in 1979 and registered in 1993 by Fred Fellner. It was newly planted last fall.

I really like it too. I ordered a number of new Asiatic lilies from Valley K Lily Ranch last fall and am excited to see them bloom. Afraid I lost a number over the winter. It was a rough one so am not blaming the bulbs. They looked very healthy when planted. Should have a few more open this week.

So nice to see photos finally of lily blooms! My Sweet Loraine should open in the next day or 2. She is always my first to bloom.
