A friend of mine gave me this and called it a star plant, but I think there must be another common name for it, because my internet searches return other plants. Does anyone know the common name and botanical name? Thanks, Joe

My first thought was the photo was of a cactus of some sort but the picture won't enlarge so it's difficult to get a good view. I agree with Planto, if you can upload a photo of the entire plant it might be much easier to identify.

Plantomaniac08 - No, that wasn't my photo. Attached is one that I took, although I think the grass washes it out.

Plantladylin - I also found that same image while searching the internet (it's the first one that I uploaded)

Yes, Cyperus, but looks more like C. involucratus:
Umbrella Plant (Cyperus alternifolius subsp. flabelliformis)
Umbrella Grass (Cyperus involucratus Graceful Grasses® Baby Tut®)

I believe that it is Cyperus involucratus (umbrella sedge). Thanks for all the help everyone - great forum!
