Looks like it could be a Joiner. You could look through the db and see if anything pops out at you.

Avedon - It's good to see your photo of Sweeten Creek. I added it last fall and mine is just now scaping. It's a pretty bloom. I had expected it to be a darker yellow though - more the color of your Imperial Lemon. What makes Imperial Lemon your favorite yellow? I think I remember seeing your gorgeous clump shots of it in past years. Should that be Small World Snow Owl in your photo. I think we both that one the same year. Mine died in a pot. I recall for a near white, it had quite a bit of pink in the flowers. Did it ever whiten up more for you?

When I first discovered daylilies, I bought a small book and Golliwog was pictured in it. I thought it was the coolest thing I ever saw, and was hooked for life.

Some from today.

What are the causes for the mottling on some of the dark colored blooms?

They are called thrips, I call it splotchy though.
I think thrips are actually bugs, you can spray for them.
I don't because I want to know what a pretty unsplotchy daylily is.

Yes, splotchy is a better word for it. I'm going to have read up on thrips, I guess. Do they overwinter in the daylilies? Not all the dark ones are affected, just some. Are there other causes that make the blooms splotchy?

Cat's Cradle, the first couple of scapes are in the foliage, it did the same last year and the rest bloomed well above the foliage.

I also had FFO's on Gordon Biggs and George Jets On, but they were pretty faded by the time I got home.

Love that poly on Jean's Joyful Noise.

Look at all of the buds on Zada Mae.

Lots of beauties today. Thanks for posting!

I counted today and have pods forming on about 40 varieties so far. Woohoo! With the help of the deer I only had two pods total last year. Grumbling

I have never grown a daylily this large before. This is Buddy's Shaun, it was a gift plant from James Hall when I bought Buddy's Wild And Wonderful last year.

The scape couldn't hold it up. In the background is a tag for "Monster," it's a tag for another daylily but it's appropriate for this flower.
