Pretty! They seem to be all late season iris. Too bad Mother Nature won't read show schedules!

The "Queen" has beautiful flounces! Yay Zurbrigg! Wish I had known about him before he died. I would have been visiting his Durham garden!

All plant societies are fading away. Older members die off or go into 'assisted living'. Younger people are not as apt to garden unless it is family tradition. 2 workers in the family leave little time for other things.

That seems to be the way. I am the only active member who has joined the club since 2009. In that time, we have lost 7 active members. We are down to about 8 active members. Not good!

Nice pictures from the show.
Our Bluegrass Iris Society won the Membership award from AIS for having the most new members this year - 35 new ones!!!!! I am not sure how we did it except that advertisement on TV and in the newspaper helped a lot plus the inducement of a $25 gift certificate from AIS for new members helped considerably.
Most young people and young adults are in general not joiners and they are so busy. We must make an effort to get the youth involved but our club has not been too successful at that. Still trying though. You are finding drindling numbers in churches, women's societies, teacher groups, etc.

I'm afraid you are right , Lucy. When I was a child, *almost* everyone had either a veggie garden, or a flower garden.....and most had both ! You just don't see that now. There are some "younger folks", of course, who "garden".....and like you say, most of those *grew up with it*. Our little town, and several of the surrounding ones, used to have "The Ladies Gardening Club", or, in some cases "The MENS Gardening Club", now, except for the County Master Gardeners Program, I know of none that survive ! The "Floral" building at the County Fairgrounds used to be filled ,to overflowing, 30 years ago, and last year, the Floral, the "cooking", and the "Knitting / sewing" all fit in one building. I suppose the problem really lies with us.. Shrug! ...if we don't encourage the younger folks to "grow"....nobody else will ! I'll admit, we do a good job of 'enabling", here on the various forums....but really, we are "preaching to the choir", as only those who have SOME desire ever follow the threads ! The "Youth Section" of the AIS, the folks who help start "Community Gardens", and involve the *young 'uns*, and the gardener who tries to involve the kids in the neighborhood in the hobby, really have their work cut out for them !

Wonderful to see your show Greg. One challenge we have here is that the Garden Center where we hold our show has many uses and we have to schedule our shows in January and then hope the season works out. We have a few people join at the show and at the sale each year and a some stay active so we are holding our own. Some of our long time members, including me, are getting a little older. Shrug! There used to be a great Mum Society and
Glad Society that put on nice shows. They are gone as is Artistic Designers.....and the Judges Council. There is a relatively new Dahlia Society that is growing. Rose Society struggling. Daylily Society just a memory.

Not bad pictures at all Greg, and the LA's are woefully under represented by pictures in the database! Thumbs up

Only "Ruffles and Flourishes" had a picture of the non bearded irises I shared from the show; and that picture was not of a bloom. I really like it when I am adding the first picture to the database.

The name was for WW II. So there are just regular vegetable patches.
