When buying a potted Hosta and you have several to choose from do you choose a larger single division more impressive plant or a pot containing 2 or 3 smaller divisions? I choose the second........

I prefer the second also, but sometimes my wallet prefers the fist!

I also choose the second.

If I was looking for a certain kind (streaked or cupped) and the single eye plant looked better then I would buy it.

If I was buying it with the thought I might share it soon, I'd buy the multi eyes. Otherwise I'd probably choose the larger single eye.

So, is single vs multi, any indication of being a stronger plant?

more eyes. In one season they will beef up alot, so it is worth the wait.

I always take the one with the most stems.

Plus if one dies for some reason, you still have it.

Guest the "eyes" have it.

I will also generally choose the one with more divisions. But the condition of the plant plays a part as well.

I just picked up Neptune yesterday they had a pot full of nice sized divisions which will be planted soon. Last week I picked up Beckoning all the pots only had one division but very good sized.

After years of not adding hosta to my garden this year I bought some from ATP classifieds and then the two pots, now I am set for a long time.
