Could you have gotten it at a plant trade?
Just from googling it, it seems like most of the people posting about it are from Texas or Florida.

@Dutchlady1 also has experience with it so perhaps she can help. Smiling

I bought it from a local nursery or a big box store, probably at the end of fall. Kept it in a little greenhouse until late February. I'll pull a few pieces out tomorrow and take a better photo. I really do appreciate the help in trying to ID it.
I had thought I could possibly find the original pot it came in. However, my daughter helped me "organize" the stacks of pots I have, and tossed most of the black plastic ones a couple of weeks ago.

Well Sandi, I have the perfect solution to figuring out what to call your mystery plant.
Why don't you just pack that baby up in a box and mail it to me. Then we can definitively call it.... MINE!!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Sounds like a plan! I know it must be something fairly common. I wouldn't have paid a lot for a plant at the beginning of winter when it might not make it through to spring, unless it was on sale.

I did find a post on another site where someone said they bought their plant at a Home Depot in a 1 gallon pot. It seems it also commonly gets sold in the pond section under the generic name of "Red Bog Lily."

Your plant looks pretty happy so hopefully it will bloom for you this summer and make its true identity known.

I may be a little odd, but I'm having fun trying to figure it out. Hilarious!

I think Danita has it although it can't be said which named hybrid it is for certain it does look like Crinum Menehune. My first impression was Crinum, the stems are much like C. procerum 'Splendens' of which Crinum 'Menehune' is a cross with C. oliganthum.

Crinum oliganthum does have pleated leaves ...

I've had two Crinum procerum Splendens, one from Thailand and the other from South Africa which was originally from Hawaii. They grew a little, then died when it was too cold for them in the greenhouse over winter and I couldn't keep them inside.

I would say Crinum too. Definitely not Cordyline. Congratulations on your win! Thumbs up

More thanks to Janet and Hetty! I took a few photos this morning after removing some of the roots.

I loaded a photo of the Crinum procerum Splendens I got from Thailand but removed it as it had my address on the customs form! I've cropped it off .. the leaves are a deep purple but some green out.

I think it is a crinum now! I've only changed my mind four times. The "leaves are purple, but some green out" is exactly what this one does.

I have a lot of big green floppy crinums (Spider lilies) around my gardens, but none have ever bloomed. I've received them from gardening friends who were sure "anyone could grow them." I can grow them, but not make them bloom. Maybe I'll have better luck with this one if I leave it in the pot. Whistling

Thanks again to all. I will have to confess at the next garden club mtg. that one of my plants was mis-ID'd by me. It will make a good story!
