I'll come back and post photos, probably on Weds. we have about 50 rocks all cleaned and drying in the sun, just waiting for paint now!

Remember when pet rocks were the thing to have? My son found a rock, my mom painted eyes, mouth & tail on it, and believe it or not I still have it!. Of course, I misplace it from time to time, but that is the story of my life. Really going to look for rocks now, even if I can't paint. I love ladybugs so I think I should have one of them too.

You'll do great. You can even buy acrylic paints at Wall Mart!

I do remember the pet rocks...funny!

When I was in kindergarten a neighbor boy and I gathered rocks and colored them with crayons and sold them in the neighborhood for a quarter a piece. When my parents found out we had been selling them they made us take the money back. The people wouldn't take the money back so we went to the corner store and bought candy. That was way before the "pet rocks."

well, we tried to paint rocks...found out real quick that they really need a base coat of white for the colors to 'pop' so I now have 50 white rocks on my table going to be out all day tomorrow but maybe we can get them started tomorrow night

oh...I'm sorry, Angl. You're right...red is the worst color of all to cover anything. Well, maybe yellow but I add a little white to my yellow and it covers. You'll probably still need two coats of red. AND the varnish or clear spray will make the colors really pop!!!!

you are right, and I should have known that! we did red, neon green and yellow and then had to paint them white and start over still had lotsa fun tho. I'm just hoping we can finish them before DN leaves on Monday to go back home!

no not yet got a quilt square to finish that jamie pestered me into signing up for. Still got half painted rocks on a table outside, a half finished doll house in the office, some glasses I was etching on the dining room table, a sweater and a blanket half crocheted and just went out and bought some clay pots to make toad houses...I think I need more crafts to do....kinda boring around here

There is an opal carving at the Smithsonian of a little lizard, where the artist just carved away the excess of the opal naturally occurring on the rock, (I want it, too, but somehow I don't think they'll let me have it!) and this painting reminds me so much of it!

Woofie, cute, isn't it? Find an artist near you and have one made. It is an easy piece to copy.

When I find the appropriate shaped rock, I may have a go at it myself!
