Looking at the honey makes me want some of it LOL.
DH is arguing the red spots are royal jelly I'm arguing right back that it's pollen because royal jelly is milky looking not red. I figure it's the orange pollen from the crocus that's been capped. Plus the frame is in the brood box and they store pollen and honey like that to have it handy for feeding all those babies.
I think he'll be adding supers soon the way they are working today.

It was nice to see them doing so well. However, we seem to have a welfare hive Blinking they are going in and out but don't seem to be bringing anything in with them.

I agree with you Margaret; it's either pollen OR it could be red colored honey from certain plants. But I don't think it's royal jelly at all.
I once had some plum honey from strictly a plum orchard which was as dark purple/red as you can imagine & it was the BEST honey I ever put in my mouth!!!!!!! Drooling

Nope, plum tree hasn't bloomed yet so I still say it's pollen.

I agree to on the color, I remember having some buckwheat honey that was really dark in color and honey in other colors too, I think it depends on the sources the bees are using. Thumbs up Never have had and but would love to try plum honey! Drooling

Christine you are right about the source of nectar being the source of the color of honey.

I know you read this article when I published it last year but read it again for a refresher Smiling

My first bee picture of the year. The Nanking bush cherries bloomed incredibly early this year - at least a month early. This was taken March 24.
