Clematis/Rose Combinations

Clematises and roses are ideal companions. They grow well in the same types of locations, thrive in the same types of soil, require the same amount of watering, and respond equally well to the same fertilizers.

Dark purple looks great with most colors.
I don't like the shades of red, orange , pink with Odoriba. Atleast the daylilies that are nearby don't look nice to me

I've never liked a pink and orange combination and that was Mrs. J's favorite plant combination.

I am stuck with a NOID pink peony next to 'Tropicana'.

I thought removed all of the jupiter's beard from the rose bed out in front of the house, but it keeps coming back. Mrs. J planted two red-orange floribundas with three pink hybrid teas in the middle in the top tier. I am just glad they are spaced far enough apart that they don't drive me crazy.

Smiles,
Lyn

Watercolor soft orange with soft pink is my favorite, so I think I would have liked Ms J! My closet is full of those colors too.
The clematis that I have trouble siting are the striped ones. I end up putting them on a trellis by themselves. For some reason, pink and white clems are the most challenging for me. Even on a red rose, they don't look right.
What do you all do with the multicolor ones?
My only successful pairing so far has been on an espaliered apple tree.

I pair the pink and white clems with pink roses, but they'd look good with a purple rose too, I think.

Wow, I'm looking forward to having Rooguchi take off! I think I'd better plant it a little further back, LOL

LOL, dirt, I too thought it would be a somewhat smaller plant, I guess in my mind, small blooms, small plant. nodding And this year it has also gotten almost 7 ft tall into a climbing rose and that was after cutting it down to a couple of feet in early spring. But it's happpy, has a super long bloom period and is an easy one to grow. So maybe next year it will be up and over the arch with the rose.

I planted my Rooguchi clem where it could scramble around and potentially climb either of 2 pink roses. Thanks for the input! Smiling
