There seems to be two different things discussed here. 1. the Logo and 2. The entire banner/header area.

A logo is a trademark which becomes instantly identifiable regardless of where it is seen and is usually kept small. Think of Apple computer's logo or McDonalds golden arches. Their logo instantly tells you who's product it is.

The banner or header is another issue entirely. The banner sets the tone for the site. The current yellow header is a clean slate. It is simplicity taken to the max. It creates a boundary for the Log, tabs, mail and profile images but it does not add anything decorative or site definative on it's own other than color.

Those of us who are stimulated by visual cues tend to find this type of header to be bland. Those who are more minimalistic in their nature find it soothing and inviting.

Perhaps there is a nice middle ground between the two polar opposites. I am not able to provide an example right now because I am at work, but think of a damask fabric. It has only one color, but there is a pattern woven into it. IF you are interested, I could work up an example of that look for you this week end.

You hit the nail on the head, Zany- in all respects.

Our goal is a very clean and simple look, and thus I'm not interested in a banner (at least on the front page) at this time. However, I'm willing to entertain something extremely subtle, if you come up with something.

As for the logo- again, simplicity is the name of the game. We played with many many options, and are willing to look at jazzing up what we have, if something again simple, classy, and elegant can be done.

If you have ideas, please tree-mail them to me, but only if you promise not to get your feelings hurt if I decline Smiling

Sandi- we plan on having paraphernalia in short order! I think you will all be happy! Whistling

You know my feelings can't be hurt LOL! I was strickly speaking of a logo, not a banner. I like the simple too, but do think that some logo that will immediately make me say of yeah ATP is worth considering. Just don't know what might be a good one.

[quote="haighr"]Wow, I didn't know cubits had bumper stickers, I sure missed that.

haighr, I was just teasing you and i apologize. We weren't given Cubit bumper stickers. I made my own in the very beginning, and the first time I printed the website incorrectly. I thought it would draw the curious and they would click onto Cubits and help traffic. What I didn't bank on was having to drive politely in Austin traffic, since the sticker told 'em where they could find me!

I didn`t have a idea to totally change the logo. I did not want to make a banner either. Well, I guess making it go in a straight line Is changing the logo! I like the blue letters and the basic design of the logo but I was proposing to make it more streamlined to allow for...yeah Your graphics because I must be visual like Zany has pointed out! I love pictures and never think of them as clutter. I wanted your pictures and things that said "All Things Plants" in picture form.

The texture sounds like a good happy medium though.

My feelings aren`t hurt but I`m pleased that ideas are considered! Karen

Zany, regardless, I'm peeling it off in the morning so I can return to my previous sarcastic personality. Oh never mind, the sticker had nothing to do with my personality.
