Pls let us know, Cinta! I gotta say again how excited I am! Just did a bud check, no blooms open yet... forgot to say last night, the piece with buds was cut & stuck in a pot weekend before last, 9/13. Been where it's getting some direct AM sun (before & after being cut.)

I went out and looked this morning and mine is not blooming. It is a cutting from my sister that I put in the pot and it is total shade. When you posted the plant I remembered my sister still had her plant.

It was one my Mom grew for years and she kept her cutting. The darn thing looks horrible because she has it in her dining room window and never take it outside. I think it is in the same pot and soil for the last 20 yrs. Hilarious!

Maybe I should put it in some sun next summer.

I'd love to see it! Is your piece upright? That's the conclusion I would probably draw from what I've seen this summer, or part of summer, technically. Likes some direct light. Maybe more? IDK. Can't wait to get started earlier next year - in more spots/diff exposures - and to see if the pieces I leave in the ground survive. There's so little info out there about this whole genus. Kudos to getting more of your sentimental plant going! Eggs no longer in 1 basket...!

It is draping in shade. The one my sister have some of the stems are growing up others are hanging down. Her window is a morning sun situation.

TYVM! That's good to know. I'm curious how tall they can get before they lean over. Impossible to gauge personally this year, since I keep cutting them off. Want to get going in as many pots as possible since IDK how it will go when bringing inside or what this plant prefers/needs. Insurance, some of the individuals might not make it & I would have a come-apart if I lost all of it.

Just did a bud-check. No bloom yet...

IDK if these flowers aren't fully opened or what, but they're pretty small. (Shown with Tradescantia sillamontana, for scale, which has same size flowers as purple heart/T. pallida.

It certainly is an attractive plant. The leaves have a sort of iridescent look to them. Some plants are only appreciated for their foliage and this is one of them.

I agree, the foliage and dramatic purple stems are this plants' primary feature, and blooming wasn't even on the radar at the time I traded for it. Blooms would help cement an ID though, 99% sure it's (T. serrulata,) after which I wouldn't be upset if it never bloomed again, but see no reason why it shouldn't be as floriferous as most other members of the family.

The flowers are completely closed again. Sure is acting like a Callisia...

This just happened, this orange fellow is my new BFF. I watched him/her walk up to a bud cluster, grab an aphid and continue to do something, which looked carnivorous. Hope he/she is very hungry!

Me too! It's really unruly though and putting it in the ground has been interesting. I can't figure out how this plant would fit into a "normal" landscape. It just goes really fast in a straight line, though not picky about exposure, seems happy in tons of shade or quite a bit of sun. Not very good @ being a ground cover because it won't form a solid patch/clump in a reasonable amount of time, jumps right over the borders of beds, and can stand up straight for well over a foot before it gets heavy enough to lean down, like a crazy, unruly version of T. pallida. A hanging pot seems the only real solution regarding potting it, and I'm sure it could climb up trees with those aerial roots in a jungle habitat, its' natural milieu. (I put pics of that in its' DB entry here, linked above.)

Fun for anyone who likes to propagate something constantly.
