Look at this little gem. It is a plain green nondescript sedum in summer. Loves neglect. Grows mounded without soil. Has never flowered. Cascades through boulders on long stems covered in leaves. Last summer I struck a dozen cuttings and put a few babies in my new rockery. This sedum is simply gorgeous in winter (now) has turned lime and scarlet- and is thriving in below zero temps and snow. Can anyone help me ID it?

Is it Crassula Campfire?

This is what it looks like in the winter.
Thumb of 2015-06-17/Cinta/df8b1f

Then when I put it outside for the summer it gets red around the edges and some of the leaves are totally or mostly red.

Hmmmm I don't think its that one because of the leaf shape. But it could be the same family. The red is very intense but only in winter. In summer it is apple green. Does yours go red in winter at all?

Once I put it in the sun it is red all year now. I will take a pic of it tomorrow now that it is outside. The pic I posted was one when I first received last yr. It is a little mail sad. Hilarious!

Lots of succulents go red in either cooler temps or bright sun. It's not Crassula campfire but it may be orostachys malacophyllus...which is cold hardy, green in the summer and shows red stress tints in winter/cold temps. Can you show a picture of the adult plant (I'm assuming this is a picture of the cuttings)?

I can't grow my 'CampFire'. Every year I have to start over with just a stem. Get going a little then winter again. Almost no water and even when I do, Wam, it rots. If not the leaves shrink from no water. No win. Same with most of my other Jades.

Stush I killed the first Campfire I purchased and tried again last year. It flowered and I put the dead flower heads on the soil in my sedum pots and they made babies. I was surprised. I do not know what I am doing right this time I would tell you. The only thing I can tell you is that I do everything that is suppose to be wrong........

No drainage holes
No water all winter for any of my succulents maybe a drop of water once all winter
Soil.....Well that is whatever I have in the garage. Mostly from my local Nursery called Black Gold. But I do have some from Big Lots cheap potting soil.

Here is a pic of the parent plant @karmatree What do you think? It's s little stressed this morning since the temps got down to -10C last night.

I haven't even tried the campfire here. I know I would kill it. It's just too cold. I forgot a plant outside last night, an unidentified beautiful one. This morning it's leaf mush. Stupid me Sighing! Sad

I don't water any of my outside succulents over winter at all. Not the jades, semps, aloes, sedums or echeverias. So far, my Black Princes have done surprisingly well outside over winter, elevated off the ground in pots. But the succulents in my grow tent under lights or in my hothouse get watered when they are dry. The lights are on 15hrs a day.

It's got to be a crassula. Cold hardy, turns red in cold, same growth pattern....Google Crassula Crosby's Dwarf......is this your plant?

Funny you should say Crosby's compact/dwarf. Googled it and I have another plant that looks like it. Here is a pic of that one which gets red edged in the sun. The leaves on this one are thicker than the other one and have a texture like a jade but the other one is smooth. Curiouser and curiouser.

Well, that one looks like the regular sized Crassula ovata (Jade plant)....But I've changed my mind about the dwarf one anyway...back to square one!
This is a mystery!!! Confused Confused Confused Confused
If Tarev doesn't know...then I doubt I have a shot in ID'ing it but I'm not giving up yet!

OooOoo @purpleinopp I think that could be it! The s.Kimnachii looks a lot like it. I did find an old flower bract off a stem but I have no idea what colour it was. **off to google**

@karmatree LOL Sticking tongue out I saw the Lime Zinger plant when searching a while ago trying to ID this plant, but I don't think that hybrid is in Australia.
