Frank, Ford River is actually only a township -- we don't even have a post office here (my PO is Bark River), and I have an Escanaba phone number... Hilarious! . Very confusing place to live, I like to describe it as "over the (Ford) river and through the woods" ...

At least I'm in the "southern UP" nodding

You can always come to visit me to get away from the heat, Lyn -- our temp didn't get past the mid 60s today, and this was the day they opened the municipal beach in Escanaba (which is Lake Michigan); we could have gone swimming! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Yep, still gardening while wearing a sweatshirt... Rolling my eyes.

I'd love to come visit you, Sandy, to get away from the heat, but what would happen to my garden ???

I can always go swimming in the Trinity River ... if I ever stop being a garden slave ... Hilarious!

I was gardening in a wet t-shirt ... Whistling

"what would happen to my garden?"

Oh, I can so relate to that! from about February (when I begin starting seeds) until November or so, leaving for any length of time is pretty much out of the question!

There was no sweating going on inside my sweatshirt today Hilarious!

I just wish it would stop raining. We have had rain every day for 3 weeks. The sun comes out and I think finally I can do some gardening and I get ready. The clouds come and that garden happy place is not possible.

I dream all winter of enjoying being outside in the sun and I am still stuck in the house.

We heated with wood for many years; I loved the heat, hated the mess (our wood stove was right in the living room). Now we have hot water heat -- a lot less work and a lot less mess, but there have also been a few times when the power went out that I really, REALLY wished we still had the wood stove for backup!

Me too, I guess in late winter but before it is time to spend time in the garden. Otherwise I am too busy to spend much time cleaning the house.

Sunny out in spite of the fact that those weather guessers had said that the rain would not clear out till late in the day.

We're forecast a high today of 100, down from 101, haha. But then-o and then-o, as it says in the song, temps are forecast to plunge to low nineties and then! to low eighties by Saturday which is my birthday and I will definitely take that as a birthday gift from the Universe!

Fortunately, all the rain preceeding this heat spike means I am not having to do very much emergency watering. The garden looks pretty good. So I also am taking advantage of a non-gardening moment -- *cough* -- to do a little inside cleaning. Which feels pretty good, actually.

Rain? People actually get that wet stuff from the sky? Sigh, been a while here. And the extended forecast has 3 digits. Yuck!!!

Yeah ... lots of triple digit days ahead. All of July will be just as bad. The thing that worries me the most is that they are forecasting some strong thunder storms. Fire danger is incredibly high .. Crying

We have a severe thunderstorm warning but they don't have to warn me. We are getting loads of rain, wind, and lightening right now. The same pattern is supposed to persist over the next three days. At least we'll have a little cooling. We were 97 yesterday, 95 today, and by Saturday, it is supposed to be 80 high. I will have to see that 80 to believe it. Whistling

Ken ...

That's the part that worries me ... no rain. In June of 2008, dry thunder storms crossed northern California and over 1000 fires were started by lightening strikes. In Trinity County they let two fires in the back country burn all summer. Over 200,000 acres were burned and 9 lives lost.

We didn't see sunlight all summer because of smoke.

With the drought, the fire danger is worse than it was in 2008.

Yeah ... I am worried.

The drought in your area is so terrible, Lyn -- I honestly can't even imagine it Crying

We had another storm roll through this afternoon that was really just a nice rain, nothing violent even though there was a severe storm warning for the northern part of our county. (Just enough to keep the mosquitoes breeding...)

82 on the east facing shady front porch. I'm melting - cannot even imagine you folks in triple digits. My house stays fairly cool, though, and we also have a basement to really escape the heat.
