Yikes -- I proved to myself today that I have no idea how you all deal with the heat; I spent quite a bit of time completely weeding out my hoophouse, and planting a few extra tomato plants plus 5 hot pepper plants in there... it had to be around 100F but at least I could walk out of it, back into the 70s!

When I am working in one of my two greenhouses (the "Orchid" greenhouse is closed until October), I have four fans running. About all that does is move hot air, but since I am drenched in sweat, that air movement does cool me off a little bit. About all I use that "Everything Else" greenhouse for is to mount plants. Otherwise, I drag whatever I want to do outside, under oak trees.

Oh god how I dread walking into the greenhouses this time of year. I only overwinter and start plants in mine and I usually have all my plants outside by mid April but I keep my pots and equipment in 1 of my 2 greenhouses and if it's 100 outside it's every bit of 120 in the greenhouse.
We are still praying for rain Here in SC, it's been the worst year yet here in my area. Every time they call for it, it dissipates before it gets to us. On windy days you can actually see dust in the air. The earth has large cracks in it, some over an inch wide and even the weeds are wilted. I swear If I start seeing tumbleweeds rolling across the yard I'm moving! Smiling

We're in a hot spell here, but after reading about droughts, greenhouse heat, and the idea of tumbleweeds, I'll remain quiet.

There is no break from the heat here. They are predicting an even hotter week to come. 95° in the shade doesn't help with 80% humidity. Be careful of heat exhaustion! I've had early symptoms twice already.

Sandy - I'm jealous! I do have very clean, neat, well tended shady spots.

Cheryl - what's the doctor's report on your staph infection? We're due for weather that's too hot for me this week and the humidity knocks me out. It could be worse, I guess, so I'll be quiet.

@Pirl just got back from the recheck. The Test for MRSA is not back yet. He added another antibiotic and prednisone for the itching. Not fond of Pred. Might skip it and endure the itch or take benedyl. But I guess it is not healing as fast as he'd like. Plus the new ones are festering now. I am going to try to get in to see my own Dr. this week,

Too scary, Cheryl. Try and take the Prednisone, even for just a few days. It really does stop the itching/scratching/ensuing grief. Benadryl and driving don't mix well. They make me more groggy than anything else.

92 here right now at 8 p.m, was 96 today, 97 yesterday and going to stay hot. At least it rained this morning, but yikes, feels like a jungle, so sticky.
We have got rain all spring and summer to where I don`t have to water as often and now when I do my rain barrels are full. It is just a good amount
of rain for the season not in excess, now if someone could just turn off the heat! nodding

We are the same here in NE Mississippi as you, Linda. Our heat index was 108 and is predicted to be 105-1010F daily at least until next Monday. It is so hot and humid it literally takes your breath away when outside for a few minutes. Why did I complain about winter's cold? Whistling

OMG -- all of you southerners that think northern winters are so awful... I just have to say, you are TOUGH! Maybe it's just what I'm familiar with, but I'll take winter over that extended excessive heat any day! (Either way... thank goodness for AC and good heating systems! -- how in the world did people survive long ago?)

The hard way. I heat with wood, and am thankful my winters are not as cold as yours.

My triple digit heat wave has passed for now, but I still can't work outside all day. We are in the 80s and 90s and I cannot figure out why I complained when temps first hit the 80s. It feels so good to have the temps in the 80s now.

Ken .. I only complain about the heat. I wouldn't dare complain about the cold. I a superstitious enough to think that would make it even hotter the following summer ... Rolling my eyes.

Smiles,
Lyn

Lyn, we heated with wood for years (although we also had electric heat for backup). Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a wood-powered air conditioning system ... (I guess that's where hand fans come in?)

Well we finally got some much needed rain. After almost 2 months of no rain a gullywasher came down the other day. It came so fast and hard I doubt it was adsorbed by any of the higher ground but I'll take what I can get at this point Big Grin
