Team Gloves or Team Bare Hands?

By Trish

We've talked feet, let's talk hands. Do you protect and pamper, or tough it out barehanded?

I also wear the Fox Glove Gardening Gloves. I always wear gloves and have been wearing these for probably as long as they have been out. I live on an old farmstead and I'm always uprooting pieces of glass and such (a Tornado went through in the 60s and well...). I usually get my Fox Gloves from Frostproof Growers. You can get the original version or the ones with the grip dots. Not much for color selection, but color isn't the reason I'm buying them. Smiling LOL http://www.frostproof.com/cata...

I also got my Felcos there. I love my Felcos. http://www.frostproof.com/cata...

never wore gloves unless weeding in the past.. been trying to be better and wear them .. I have been trying to leave a stash of cheap clean gloves handy .. so when I leave them outside somewhere.. I don't have to go looking for them.. yeah they can take a wash or two but then they are trash.. and I keep a couple of better pairs that were dipped for big planting days

Always hated the general store bought cheapie gloves until I tried the Atlas ones, now I have stocked up in a couple of co-ops and never go without them! My hands thank me. I wear them through any job, from seed sowing to digging and watering.
As this reviews states, they "are ergonomically shaped around your hand for high level of flexibility and dexterity. People have said that while wearing Atlas Nitrile gardening gloves, they felt like they were working bare handed."

I have been known to brave the cold to shovel snow onto certain fussy perennials that need the extra cover....and the wind has blown them bare.

I use atlas and foxgloves. I put a small bit of coconut oil on my hands each time I wash them and it has really helped keep them from being rough. I probably do this about 6 times a day, its cheap and its easy. I always wear gloves, I hate the dirt under the fingernail look.

Always was for no gloves in the past, but have since switched to wearing them since I tried the Atlas nitrile gloves. My hubby has taken to using them too. They're also good when machine quilting.

Unless you've got little ittybitty hands like from the old Burger King commercials, you can't have hands bigger than mine. I wear a size 2XL in gloves, so I'm always stuck in men's gloves (can NEVER find women's gloves that fit.. never never never!!) I use the white/orange gloves from Home Depot to do my gardening and they fit just fine.. plus you can still 'feel' with them on. Try them! Besides, they're uber cheap! Smiling

My hands are "portly" Rolling on the floor laughing They are the width of a med size mans glove but the fingers are the length of a childs so the tips are always empty and I can't pick anything up in them.

Zany - Ah, I know exactly what you mean! My sister is the SAME exact way! I always make fun of her hands 'cuz they don't look like anyone else in the family's... (we've always made fun of each other.. I was known as the ski feet/elephant ears/giraffe legs/orangutang arms in the family..)

And there's NOTHING wrong with portly finners.. I wear a size 10 wedding band!

Big Grin I took an art class in high school and we were given an assignment to create a life size sketch of our own hand and not to sign it. The sketches were then turned in and the instructor critiqued each one. When he got to mine he used it to show how important it is to use proper proportions. I had to giggle when he said "this is a prime example of the artist not using proper proportions. The palm is wide and very detailed and the fingers are very well done also...but they do not look like they fit the palm... Your assignment was to sketch your hand as realistically as possible...NOT to make a caricature of it."

I stood up and walked to the offending sketch, placed my open hand over it and grinned as he spluttered out apologies Hilarious!
