Hi Sharon, Welcome! to All Things Plants!

Yes, we'd love to see photos of your new plant! I wonder if it is a variety of Alpinia: http://garden.org/plants/searc... ?

Welcome! Sharon to ATP. Yes, do post a picture. If it's not alpinia, it could be stromanthe thalia. It's leaves close at night.

I would guess the stromanthe, too. I never noticed mine closed up at night until someone prompted me to go look at it at night.

Aha, I have Stromanthe and I don't know why it didn't come to mind. It sure sounds like a good possibility.

I have two Stromanthe thalia, the green and also the variegated cultivar 'Triostar'. Here are photos for comparison:

Hi & welcome, Sharon! I look forward to seeing your pretty plant!

It may be one of the other plants suggested above. And there are quite a few cultivars of Cordyline fruticosa. Many have pics added to the database here by members, if you'd like to browse those:

An update on this main pot (by now, there are Ti plants in other pots too from cuttings.) There's an air plant added that my MIL found on the ground in FL. I've acclimated to more sun this summer, hoping for even better blooming this fall.

None of my plants have bloomed since 2016, but discovered some buds on one today.

Hi! I THINK this is a Ti?! Picked her up at Lowe's during the spring because I loved the color and didn't really pay attention to the name. Obviously, that was before my plant obsession began Rolling on the floor laughing

Many pretty Ti here

The thread "Ti plants/Cordylines." in Houseplants forum
I only have two like the Red Star posted by plantladylin, link above. I got them as container 'spikes' about three years ago and have kept them going, stuffed into pots for winter. But this year, I may left them go. One is much bigger than the other and messes up the ' pair of pots flanking the front door' symmetry I had going. Plus, want to try something else there.

I got a Ti plant many years ago, when parents went to Hawaii, lost it to mites, and don't think I have enough good light to try another.

Gee, why did I post when I am such a downer on Cordyline? Sorry Big Grin
Plant it and they will come.

Ti plants continue to be great out-for-summer and in-for-winter houseplants. This one is in a jar of water for now. They take root so easily.

Who has some Ti plants?

Yes, I know this discussion started a while ago. I chose to reply to it on purpose. Please do not split into a new discussion. Thank you very much!

Hi tiffany,
I still have not bought a Ti plant. and I did 'let go' of the two Red Star Cordyline I had.

I can recommend though, starting with Red Star as a little 'spike plant' and letting it grow. (do they still sell those in spring) (or do they just make up combo pots and charge you 25$ for the whole thing Thinking )
Plant it and they will come.
