Thanks, all. I'm glad I've never had a lumbar epidural. It sounds painful.

It is a piece of cake. You are in twilight sleep and don't feel or know a thing. It is all out-patient. I hope you never have back trouble, Jim. I have had a sorry a** back for fifty years.

OOps, Happy Birthday, Jim. You certainly are the youngest 70-yr old I know. Well done, and I'm sure you've got at least another 20 to go here.

I have a few orchids that opened on your birthday, first is my B.nodosa which I've had for 4 years and this is only the second time it has deigned to give me flowers. Second a bonus flush of Yellow Birds, some are on the previous stems from last month's show.

Bert, you can see this ivory/rose is the color the Yellow Birds open but they do turn progressively more yellow as they mature.

I did finally get some shots of the Thunderstorm Orchid in bloom. The flowers only last a day or two, but are really pretty. Impossible to get a decent picture, though, as they are on long stems and bob and wave in the wind.

We sure do have enough storms lately to inspire it. I've only had it since March and this is its 3rd flush of blooms.

Lady of the Night opens on my birthday. It's an omen I tell you. nodding

I spotted one new bloom in the OC this morning. This is Aliceara [Alcra.] Pacific Pastel 'Mauna Loa' (Alcra. Tropic Splendor x Onc. Connero):

Happy birthday Jim. Hurray!

I was 70 once, it seems like that was a long time ago. Hilarious!

C'mon now Jim....at only 70 you have to hope for a LOT more years than just 10! My dad is 72 and when he says to me he's "old"...I tell him that as long as his mother is still alive (she's gonna be 98 in Nov.!) and doing well, he is no where NEAR OLD!!!! That he's not allowed to be "old" until he is the oldest generation! He just laughs! Rolling on the floor laughing
Right now there are actually 5 generations of my family alive...I think it's amazing! I think it's amazing too, that at 53 years old, I still have a Grandma here on planet earth who I can call and talk to every few days!

So Jim, you are just a youngster! And I'm a baby... Rolling on the floor laughing

In comparing your Stan. Wardii bloom to mine (and gosh was that thing short-lived, opened on Sunday, faded by Wednesday and the blooms fell off on Thursday!) I could see lots more of the orange on mine, and I couldn't tell if yours had the spots or not, and I think mine had those dark 'eyes' on them....could all that be the influence of the Staccata cross? It still has 2 more 'spikes' that are getting bigger and bigger...but I don't think I'll have anything for our Orchid Society meeting this Monday as I was hoping... Sad

I love your aliceara! I have something purple like it starting to open up that I haven't taken pics of yet...I'll try to get out there before the rains move back in for the afternoon! This weather has been unbelievable!
