I killed the 'black flower' that I had. I'll have to watch for another one. I do love that color.

Fred dear, please tell me where I can get those clay pots with the scattered round holes? I'm In Memphis but could order by ground to be cheaper, I want about 20 if I can get 3-4 in size.
Much inspiration, glad to see your post always!

Ken, do you live near a nuclear power plant? (just kidding but . . ) The one you sent me with the yellow blooms has gone back to blooming peachy/copper.

I just don't know, Elaine. I had three plants bloom, and one was yellow. They are all grown side-by-side with absolutely no difference in growing conditions. I am keeping this "yellow" and want to see what happens next blooming cycle.

I would guess that the pot you are referring to came from OFE in Miami. They are at every orchid show in the area and I typically load up on what they have available. Shipping these pots would be a killer unless you get a pallet by truck or something. Their web site doesn't show those pots though. You might want to call them. Another source would be [email protected] also in Miami. They have the most amazing orchid pots but I don't know if they ship them.

Hey Carol. Odoms Orchids has the Black flower in a 6 inch pot at 30 or 35$

Bert, I've seen those pots for sale at our local shows here, too. They're always too expensive for me, since I have a handyman (engineer) husband. We have a pot drilling frenzy about twice a year and just drill holes in regular pots or the ones from the big box stores with the slits in them.

At first he made me stand by and run the hose over the pot so it wouldn't overheat and crack but now I just lay the pots in a big bowl of water to keep them cool. It keeps the dust down, too. I can drill holes to my heart's content.

If there is an IKEA store near you, they have some really nice 4in. clay pots at a good price (can't remember what I paid last time but I bought a dozen). They are a nice brown color, not terracotta, but I really like the look of them.

Fred, I love the Renate! Lovey dubby
Ken, regarding your yellow blooming Copper Queen, you could give it a nice cultivar name. How does Bc (or whatever) Copper Queen 'Ken's Yellow' sound?

I love the sound of that, Ursula! Hurray! However, the last division that bloomed "yellow" was quickly sold last summer just because of the variation (one of our well-known, beloved ATP members). She said when it bloomed again this summer, it had the typical bronzy-yellow, crimson-lipped flowers. For some reason my plants just bloom in two colors and there is no apparent rhyme or reason why or when they will do their color-change.

Fred, Thanks for the heads up on Odem's. The problem with me buying from them is the shipping charges to the west coast would double that amount...especially when they're potted in gravel. I'll keep an eye out locally.

Cheer up! you don't have to live 10' from your neighbors, deal with earthquakes, or consider travel time, as opposed to miles to go. Our freeways have overhead signs that tell you (best case scenario) how LONG to the next interchange. Seldom correct. It used to take me 20 min. to get 17 mi. to work at 5:30 am, and 1 Hour (if there were no problems) to get home at 3:30.

I get aggravated when, rather than 10 minutes to drive across town, it takes me 15. I don't have the patience I once had. Sighing! And I yell at "old folks", and I know I shouldn't. I am on my way to my eighth decade. *Blush* Everyone will soon be yelling at me. Sticking tongue out

Rolling on the floor laughing They probably are. You just can't hear them... that's my excuse when my neighbor doesn't have the breeding to look at me when she is talking to me. They don't teach manners any more. I've told her "I can't hear you" so many times that she thinks I'm deaf. In fact I know all of their business because they do it all on the porch, and I'm never sure if she is on the phone, talking to one of the dogs, or talking to me. Ah, what is this world coming to? Good thing we have the internet!
