It just seems strange you had corrective lenses all those years and then get a different diagnosis. And what would wearing contacts/glasses all those years do to your vision if not needed to begin with. All sounds very strange to me.

All our baby birds are independent now. I miss hearing their fussy impatient cries to be feed. The traffic at the jelly is already slower.

I still have not figured out what kind of birds are nesting in that house. Never see anyone go in or out. Shrug!

Hmm.. that's interesting Rita you would think if there are little babies in there, the parent(s) would be back and forth feeding them.

Maybe it's bats. Hilarious!

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Yes, I hear the little cheeps but never see any momma or papa birds. So odd.

Rita, that is odd that you haven't seen any adult birds going in or out. The hole in the birdhouse looks too small for Owls and I don't know of another nocturnal bird besides owls. I sure hope the nest hasn't been abandoned by whatever bird took up residence and laid eggs. Have you heard any more birdie noises today? It looks like the entry hole has been chewed a little. Woodpeckers seem to enlarge the entry holes to my birdhouses and sometimes they will nest and raise young in them while other times they just seem to enlarge the entrance hole but never move in. Confused

We brought this birdhouse home from vacation one year and my husband mounted it on a tall cedar post in the backyard. Nothing has ever moved in that I know of but Woodpeckers (both Red-bellied and Downy) have worked at enlarging the entrance hole. I think the reason it's never been occupied is because the feeders are quite near this area.

And, this is an old Owl House that my sister gave me years ago but we couldn't mount it high enough for owls to use ... WP's enlarged the opening on this one too but never moved in and during the hurricanes of 2004, it was blown out of the tree and it sat on the ground for a few years and I'd see young squirrels climbing in and out of it as they played

This is a small box, suitable for Chickadees or House Wrens. Yep the entrance has been pecked at.

I heard the cheeps for two days each time I passed by. Today I was busy with errands and other things and had not gotten a chance to go out in the garden until recently. So I just checked. I got a powerful flash light and opened up the back of the nest box and looked in. One baby. No others and no other eggs, The nest is soft and totally liked with feathers. The chick is quite small. Someone must be feeding it.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! .... Now to wait and see which bird it is. Hopefully when it gets bigger and appears at the entrance hole you will be able to identify it.

From my backyard today ... same old, same old birdies around these parts but I did spot another little Blue-gray Gnatcatcher this afternoon.

Lin, those bird houses ( especially the first one) sure look inviting to me, but like you said they're close to the feeders. Nice pics for the day too. The brown thrashers are pretty birds, I don't think I've seen those around.

Hurray! Hurray! Yeah Rita that's great you found one little one, they must be shy and sneak in and out when you're not looking.

Lovely!!!

I had a different bird at the jelly yesterday. Just got a quick glimpse of it from a bad angle. But think it was either a mockingbird or a thrasher.

From today ...

Blue Jay; this particular peanut/suet feeder has been missing the top for awhile now and the birds dive down into it to get at the suet. I'm trying to find a lid that the raccoons won't steal ... really need to get something on top before a bird gets stuck in there!

The blue jay up ended in that suet feeder. Wow! What a shot of that hummie with the bug flying past and the wing of another (hummie?) bird just entering the photo top right. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Thumbs up Thumbs up

Great photos as always Lin. Maybe you could get some "hardware cloth - wire of course) & fashion a top & wire the thing on good. It will be a bit of a pain to deal with when you have to put a new cake of suet in there but it ought to work.

Thanks Ann! LOL, I noticed the bug flying past the Hummer and yes, that was another hummingbird at the top right ... there were three or four chattering and chasing each other this afternoon.

Yeah, I need to find something to put atop that feeder or I'm afraid a bird will end up stuck in there! I've seen Jays, Mockingbirds and Grackles going down into the top to reach the suet!

Margaret, I don't think there's anything seriously wrong but I'm pretty sure I will need a Rx for glasses since my vision seems to be so out of focus. I have an appointment scheduled in 3 weeks.

I still had not been able to see any parent birds going to the box. So this morning I check and look inside again. There is nothing there! Crying No baby either alive or dead. I find this all really, really odd. Can't figgure out what was going on here. Confused
