Any idea what this lovely purple flower is? The ants were very fond of it.

Taken at Little Boulder Campground outside of Deary, Latah County, Idaho.

A penstemon? Not one I've seen before, but take a look at the photo at http://www.rockymountainsflora.com/details/Blue%20Long%20Clu... and Small-Flowered Penstemon (Penstemon procerus) .

Hmm, appears I lied - I did grow P. procerus a few years ago, as documented here: http://www.robsplants.com/plants/PenstProce . My plants were not a great match to your mystery plant, but there may be regional variations.
