Not a bug or insect, but this is probably the closest forum for this question: just wondering what kind of snail I have on my hands. While my garden has plenty of slugs, and my pond has water snails, I've never encountered land snails before. This weekend, I found a bunch of these brown guys on my watercress - which grow in shallow water, but the snails were on the above-water part of the plants. Most pictures I've found show snails of different shapes and colors.

Were they eating your watercress? The land snails I've encountered with long shells like that tend to eat other snail. I can't find your snail, either. It's kind of neat looking.

I could not discern that they were eating the watercress - I found them mainly traversing the upright stems, without obvious damage to the plants. But there were no other snails around for them to eat as far as I can tell.
