Wow, Sherry. Every one of those photos is so much prettier than any lawn could be.

I know. Isn't it amazing? The fact that, sadly, most people are not gardeners. You pass a house and think, "Oh, what I'd like to do with that..."

I suffer from that every single day. I look at my neighbors' barren yards and wonder how they can fail to take advantage of our perfect soil and perfect climate. If I were religious, I'd call it a sin. Hilarious!

Yep...my nutsy neighbor up in front on the road has this looong bank along the road ( narrow road and the road is entirely on our sides of the properties). I want soo badly to plant that bank. I've taken her 5 gallon pots of Mexican Bush sage and Purple Fountain grasses and she's thrilled, but doesn't really know what to do with them. I tried to hint that we could do some really great planting on that bank, make the road such a showplace, but her response is that her water is hard to reach over there. I'm dying here...I have everything we'd need to do that bank. It's not really her fault that she's such a basket case. She's 64 and ADD and her life is a shambles and the property is a shambles. I'd have to drag hoses waaaay up our drive and waaay down the road to water it.....but I'm thinking about it...plant in the Fall..natives, Matilijas...echiums...we'll see.

Maybe scatter drought-tolerant seeds from your car just before the rainy season?

Coat them with mud and shoot from a slingshot?

Lob a few clay-seed balls?...lol....

It's so aggravating...I have trees and lots of plants to put on that bank. It would greatly improve the entire road as she's got her property in a real mess and gorgeous planting across the road would hopefully distract the eye...lol. As it is, I have a very long driveway up to the road that I haul a hose up to occasionally. I've planted the drive with plants that no longer require watering. I'm seriously considering planting the bank and maintaining it though I have more to do here than I can get to and my water bill is high enough already..

Still, it's a tough one. This person has some 'issues' and I'm basically trying to have little to do with her and to plant the bank will require intereacting with her. Maybe you can come down and distract her while I plant...lol..send her out of town for a week in November maybe...SURPRISE!
