This sprouted in my yard recently and before I yank it up, I'd like to know what it is. It appears to be either a tree or shrub
planted by the birds and I would guess it's in the legume family. Can anyone help me, please?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like Sicklepod (Senna obtusifolia)
I have it coming up in my beds now. I let it grow since it is a larval host for some Sulfur Butterflies.

I agree, looks to be Senna obtusifolia which grows here in Florida too.

So since it is growing in the lawn area, I should probably move it to a more permanent location. BTW, it's growing in an area where I sprinkle
leftover coffee grounds, but is that possible?

Thank you!

It grows all over Florida and is considered a weed by many. I yank it every time I see it because we have a dog who likes to eat grass and I'd be afraid of him munching on it.

This page from the FSU Biology department shows it as potentially poisonous: http://herbarium.bio.fsu.edu/v...

This Texas A&M page says Senna obtusifolia it is toxic to livestock: http://essmextension.tamu.edu/...

Yes, many species of Senna are host plants for the Sulphur Butterfly: http://entomology.ifas.ufl.edu...

Sorry to keep coming back. Is it related to bladder senna?

Doesn't appear so.
The sennas / cassias are a large group all without needing to have the colutea merged...

When you have the time, try searching Rattlebox plants...
There's a large selection of visually similar plants that are in totally different family groups.

I think they're all neat... But... Yeah... Don't eat them... Lotta inedible fabaceaes.

Thanks, y'all, and especially you, Stone. I'll read more about it and decide whether to keep it or not.
