I've read this on several of the daylily characteristics. I understand what it means...the seeds in the pod will not look like the cultivar. My questions is what will the seeds look like....will they generally look like one of the parents of the cultivar? Will they look similar to the plant that the seed came from...just curious.

Hi Pat! That is the million dollar question!

It's like a poker hand .... You might know how many genetics are in a cultivar that could be passed down to a seedling, but there is no telling how it might show up in a child plant. That's the intrigue and excitement of hybridizing! Possibilities might be infinite ....

Here is a look at a few of the pedigree charts I've made from some of my seedlings. I find it quite fascinating!!

If you look at the last pedigree chart (CCC02), you will notice that Etched Eyes is in the lineage of both the pollen and pod parents of my seedling. I suspect that is why the bloom looks so similar. A dominate trait.

The Dragonfly Dawn x Dragonfly Dawn is a really interesting cross. Checking back to the lineage, you can see where each of my 4 seedlings picked up their petal color as well as the eye pattern. Similarities and so many differences!

The first chart showing ZZZ71 exhibits the coloring of Hotter than the 4th of July, but the throat/eye marking is pointed like Rorschach Test shows. The other seedling from that cross is this one (ZZZ70):

Thanks Becky,
This is great information. I may try to hybridize a few of my cultivars.
