I wasnt hangin there for long! went zipping thru the trees at 40 mph! It will make horseback riding tomorrow seem a whole lot safer

This is incredible but you're going to get me in BIG trouble!!! What amazing collections - I've already seen a few I'd like to try to copy! I've got a few I need to get into the gardens and I had so much fun making them I've decided I need to make more - PLENTY of ideas here.

I love them all but Lin, I REALLY love the tall green cat! The area where I'd like to add a collection of birdhouses is right near the gardens I've designated with a "cat" theme. Cats and birds, yikes! You know I've been telling myself I need to ask my father-in-law if he'd be wiling to teach me how to use some of the tools in his fantastic workshop, maybe this winter?

I don't have much of a collection started here, YET, but as soon as I'm back on my feet I'll grab some pics of the few I have. I LOVE this thread and can't wait to see more!

Robin: I love the gourd house your granddaughter painted for you ... so pretty, and so special since it was from your DGD! I've never counted all of mine but I don't think I have anyway near the 150 you own! I'm always receiving Birdhouses as gifts from family and friends ... the real "special" ones stay inside because it seems like the sun and humidity down here fade them out and disintegrate them quickly when they are in the garden.

Annmarie: Oh my goodness ... love your avatar, but that "zipping" sure sounds scary to me ... I have a "thing" about heights!

Debbie, Thanks ... I love cats and birds! I don't remember where the tall cat birdhouse came from, back when I received that one we had five cats in the household! I bet your father in law would love to teach you how to build a birdhouse ... or two ... or three. Look forward to your pictures.

Oh Becky, I love primitive too and I love that one! We used to vacation in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee every year and a couple of my primitive looking wood B'houses came from there.

I wanted to show you an idea that I plan to copy when I make my final forever move. I can't find the photo but I'll describe it:

I'll paint a gigantic tree with branches all over it like this one that I painted for a chiropractic office in Phoenix. (It's their eat healthy station) But instead of painted fruit and veggies, I'll hang small birdhouses all over the branches. I have wanted to do this for 6 years but it's going to be permanent so I want to wait for the final home.



For someone with a big family, it would be a cute family tree with names on the birdhouses and the houses depicting each persons passion.

Oh Becky ... That is gorgeous, you are so talented! I wish I could do something like that. I'd love to have a tree mural and little birdhouses hanging from the branches, and a few little birds perched along a branch or two. The Weeping Willow has always been one of my favorite trees and I used to talk about finding someone to paint a mural for me on the side of my shed that's enclosed to a wood deck in the pool area. I ended up hanging a mirror and shelves with birdhouses and other gardening decor on that side of the shed to decorate it. All of my birdhouses and garden statues/decor are all packed up now as I'm in the process of finding my final home too. It's a sad story but my faith has me excited about the future.

Sally: Love it! That is a wonderful birdhouse and photo of the Carolina Wren feeding it's young! I have two identical Purple Martin Condo houses and the Carolina Wrens nest in them every year. It's always so much fun watching the babies fledge the nest. Here are a couple of Carolina Wren babies from this past spring. They left the birdhouse and nest but still couldn't get much air under their wings yet. One landed on the fence and would climb and hop up the chain link to a plant, and the other landed in an Orange tree. The parents kept busy back and forth feeding them. I buy dehydrated mealworms for the feeders in spring and the Wrens loved them.

I love birds and baby birds especially. Those are so darling, Lin!

I rescued a sparrow when I was 7 years old and he lived with me for 3 years. That's a story you'll love but not for today. Now, I would not rescue and keep but rescue and let go. I love birds so much but just can't keep them in cages anymore. I want them to fly free.

My backyard neighbor rescued a baby Mockingbird a few years ago and raised it on her screened back porch. She said she will never do it again ... too time consuming keeping it fed, and too much mess to clean up on a daily basis!

I found this log house at a garage sale for 50 cents. Perfect nesting place!

That indeed is perfect! I have a few little resin bird statues like that too.

?????? that's a real bird. Or I thought it was.
