Yesterday I was at the local HD store and saw some striking orchids from the cash register. My MIL is an orchid grower, so I went over to look. I find it's hard to believe that there is such a thing as a blue orchid and it looked kind of like a dye to me, like they do when they put it in the water and it's absorbed into the white flowers.

Anyway, I thought it was pricy at $43, especially if the re-bloom is going to be white in 6 months or a year.

Your thoughts please. I did take some pictures but I have to get it off my cell phone before I can post it.

You are right. There is dye in the medium and that's a high price for a common white phal which it will be next bloom period!!! Buyer beware!

Funny! I called my MIL last night to tell her about it and she said that they have posted a sign at HD to tell you that new blooms will be WHITE.

I hadn't bought any new orchids in many months until I saw this phal on my way out of HD. I was so shocked and excited I picked it up and bought it regardless of price. I thought somebody had finally bred a real blue phal and I wanted it. After I got home I checked into it and found out that it was simply a white phal injected with a dye. I think it is some kind of silver chemical. I found the spot where they injected a needle into the stem. Too bad. I thought it was the real thing.

We've been getting them in at our Lowe's and aside from the shocking price...double what the other same size noid plants cost..if the
spike is only half way bloomed...only the open blooms are blue, the buds farther down the spike open white, and then of
course next year they are all white. The plants that we are getting has a very small disclaimer about the white flowers on
the back of the tag.

I've seen them at our local HD too. Sad It's so sad they have to inject dye into a plant to grab our attention ... that beautiful vivid blue color certainly is an attention getter but those prices are unbelievable for a common white Phalaenopsis!
