okay, my last one (for now), I promise! So sorry to have so many at once. I've looked and looked at this one. At first I thought it was just part of the hydrangea, but I think it is separate and a little different. I wonder if it is a tree of some kind that seeded in the hydrangea? I know I get a lot of Rose of Sharon seeding in that area from a neighbor's tree. Does it look like it might be ROS? or something else? Or am I crazy, and it's just a part of the hydrangea?

I agree, Mulberry, I think both Morus rubra and Morus alba are both common in the eastern U.S.

Yes and my neighbor has m rubra! Lovely berries earlier in the season. I've been hoping for a reseed from it. Think it needs a different spot though! either that or move my hydrangea? This is a somewhat shady spot and the hydrangea has done well there.

It will be the Morus, teh has those notch (irregular) on the leaves
