Well about 11 years ago I purchased Spacecoast Starburst and Destined to See from a reputable seller on Lily Auction. When they bloomed they were similar in color but not at all like the pictures you see online of these two plants. My Spacecoast Starburst had a fine gold edge, (not the edge seen in pictures) and Destined to See didn't have a color edge at all. I immediately thought that my climate had something to do with their appearance. I emailed the seller, sent her pictures, and when she told me she would have to check with her supplier about these plants, I knew that they were tissue cultured. I gave the plants another year to see if they would improve, and they did not. I discarded them and purchased the real deals.

It would be nice if tissue cultured plants were labeled as such. This would give the buyer the option of purchasing or NOT.

Apparently tissue culturing daylilies commercially started on or before 1975 and one of the first to be produced was 'Aztec Gold'.

I don't think I would know if I purchased a tissue cultured plant or not. If it looked different than the pic on the data base I would assume the wrong plant was sent. If they started tissue culturing daylilies back in 1975, there must be a lots of folks with tc and not know it.

If a professionally and properly tissue cultured daylily is grown in a field under typical growing conditions for enough time so that any lab and greenhouse environment effects disappear then there will be no differences between the tc plant and the crown divided plant. No one will be able to tell the difference. Proper experimental procedures and statistical analyses of the plant appearances in the field will not be able to detect any differences.
A substantial number of different plant species and varieties that are grown in gardens as flowers, as crops and within homes as house plants are tissue cultured.

Rosy really did Return....from a few dried sticks to a small bloom. It even survived the hail storm damage.

@dyzzypyxxy, Carolina Pansy Face is doing wonderful...blooming like crazy. I still have only two fans but they are nice and healthy. I was shocked beyond words on this one as well.
