I've been researching orchids and depending on the type they bloom at different times, so one way to get blooms all year is to care for different plants which bloom in the different seasons.

Oh yes potato chi[ps! It is much better to feast upon the lovely leaf colors and blooms of plants all day and every day rather then crunch potato chips. Feasting on the beauty of plants means:
no fat
no cholesterol
no calories

I'm excited! Eventually I will have a new plant which is being given to me from someone I know at church. I'm near annaplois, MD so any plants looking for a home are welcome here. As my plants have babies, or get too leggie, or are big enough and stable I create more of them so that I can share their beauty with people. As I have plants looking for homes I'll let you know. I have not yet shipped plants so I'll need a lesson(s) in how to properly do this.:-)

I hope to have my camera out of the shop this week and will be able to shoot my plants again. I like going hunting and enjoy having pictures of great scenes and portraits of things and beings.

I hope everyone has a very plantiful week and many blessings. Hurray!

Without a doubt, hoyas. My second would be a new one, Dracaenas.

So far my favorite houseplant is my Doritaenopsis. It has nice blooms which lasts for months and loves being indoors by our west facing window. But as everyone said, it is hard to really choose just one favorite, there are good runners-up for me like my Dracaena sanderiana, Dracaena marginata, Phalaenopsis, and my newest addition the Hoya kerrii with its lovely heart shaped variegated leaves, I heard it has lovely blooms, so that would certainly bump it up in my favorites list when it comes. I like the orange at the bottoms of the leaves. I put mine in a purple pot for the pizzaz of all 3 of my favorite colors in one place.

Without a doubt my favourite plant is Sansevieria. I can't tell you why. It just is. You love them or hate them. Few are inbetween. I just put together some I just bought and some I bought last year.

I now have about 20 different ones in my collection.

This is the photo of my favorite houseplant when it was in bloom in 2011, the blooms lasted for about 5 months:
Doritaenopsis:

After that it rested a bit and went busy making a leaf, and now it is busy with its flower spike, so I am eagerly waiting for it: Big Grin

Oh Tarev, what a lovely orchid!
I killed a few before I got edjumacated.
have in the last year been at 2 separate lectures about them.
The second one totally contradicted the first one.
BUT the second one made a lot more sense.
The first one was by commercial propagators.
The second was by an individual home grower who propagates and sells her own orchids worldwide.
That's right, she travels the globe with orchids in tow - for pay!
Lucky lady.
Now I'm ready to try again, but haven't got one yet.

Orchids are truly challenging Big Grin And from what I have experienced, the easiest to grow indoors are Phalaenopsis. Doritaenopsis, from what I have read, is a cross of Doritis and Phalaeneopsis so it is happy to grow indoors. The long lasting blooms once it comes makes all the challenges and wait worth the while. Though I have killed some along the way too Whistling Whistling ..ah the learning curve gets curvy..so either I avoid that type or try to learn more about it Big Grin Big Grin The first one that went to orchid heaven is a Masdevallia, then last year a sequential Paphiopedilum..boo hoo..But it did not deter me from having new ones! So go for it and try once more Critter!

I'm not picky. I enjoy all plants. Because I'm home most of the time my animals and plants friends are very good company.

I have many favorite plants because it is difficult to decide on just one. After all like potato chips; you just can't have only one potato chip and so you can't have only just one plant. Smiling Plants are like potato chips, you can't have just one. Smiling Hurray!
