By beckygardener

Ever wonder how some daylily flowers developed the "look" they are sporting? Researching back into their genetic tree can be revealing! Creating a pedigree chart can be a very useful hybridizing tool.

I saw this tip a few weeks ago and was inspired to keep better records of my cultivars, period. I now have a binder with invoices, wish list spreadsheets, haves spreadsheets, future plans, catalogs, and tips dealing with shipping, treating, etc, etc... All thanks to fine folks like you and ATP!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Where there is a will, there's a way! Who knew that a family tree software program would be used to chart daylily crosses, lol!

Great article Becky, and I know all that hard work of keeping track of your crosses is paying off. You have some wonderful seedlings I tip my hat to you.

Thanks to all of you for your comments, thumbs up, and even some acorns! I really appreciate it! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Stan - I refer to my charts all the time when choosing which seeds to grow out!

Lin - Glad you like the charts I created. Thank You!

Vickie - What a nice compliment about some of my seedlings! Thank you so much. And you are right ... I was bound and determined to be able to create some daylily pedigree charts. I actually did look at ancestry charts and family tree programs online, but none of them allowed me to customize it the way I wanted to. I kept comparing software I came across to my good old Scrapbook Deluxe Software. That's when I started looking closer at what templates I had on my scrapbook software and found exactly what I was looking for. Had it right there under my fingertips the whole time! Rolling my eyes. Hilarious! Hilarious! Thumbs up

I am not a serious hybridizer, but your article on using family tree software is great.
Thanks for sharing such a great idea.
