Pegi, I was going to mention the carousel plates from defunct microwaves so thanks for doing that. My GW usually marks them at only .99 each, but today orange tags were half off so I picked one up for .50. Plus with another 10% off for my Senior Discount it was all of forty-five cents! They are fairly large and heavy. They work well as bases, I agree, Pegi. I also got a number of components for the 3-stack vignette I want to do for the shade garden. Now I see I'm running short on E-6000 until I can get to the store. Always something. It's like cooking ... I never seem to have quite all the ingredients I need when I want to make something. Sigh!

But the trip to GW was a success. I found a really cool thing. Now I sprung for $4 for it, but it is a huge glass lamp shade. I mean, it's BIG. Oh, it's a beauty! I'm either going to use it as a planter or as the base for a very tall and substantial totem as I find more components. Or? It's about 17" in diameter. I got sooo excited. Doesn't take much to amuse some people, does it? Hilarious! Even had a lady stop at the checkout to remark on it and ask what I was going to do with it. She suggested a planter and something else. Score! Big Grin

LOL. Yes, I do wish it would get a bit cooler, Sharon. I want to have lunch. Waaaaaa. Surely this heat will break soon and everything else will calm down around here. It just has to ... doesn't it???

Vic, just bring a load of glass and/or pottery items with you and we'll have a totem making party at Sharon's. Everyone else is invited too. I wish we could. Wouldn't that be fun? Thumbs up

Uh oh ... everything at the GW store will be 50% off this first Saturday of the month. But if I had waited, the things I wanted wouldn't be there. That always happens to me. Glare I may have to go back ... but I've already shot my $20 plus a little more. Ah ha ... I have it ... in the spirit of the week, I'll raise my debt ceiling. Who will ever know? Big Grin I know, I know ... no political humor. Is that really humor? I think not. Blinking

Oh y'all - just wait till you see what I've made.

It has to dry first and it has to be nearly dark, but oh, just you wait.

Song, you are going to be so excited. You got me started on this, and now I can't seem to stop.

If I wasn't so far away I'd join all of you for the totem making party. I've used a few glass shades I've gotten at the thrift store. They work out really good. Today I got a round white candle holder to use as a base. I was going to buy a wooden light house bird house and put one of those phone insulators on top for the light, then ended up putting it back on the shelf. I saw such a neat stand in one of the worker's cars and told her I needed that for my craft things. She was holding it for another worker and if she didn't want it she would give it to me. Got so excited, but couldn't wait around for her to come back from her lunch break so lost out on it. Nothing but junk in the dumpsters either. We have a GW store close by, but their prices seemed too high. Maybe I should give them another try.

Waiting to see what you made, Sharon................... Hurray!

Total spent $2.25. I'm liking the ember colored lamp shade more and more, not sure if I like the green vase with it or if I just want to put a pottted plant in it If I stick with the vase or something like it, I could put cut flowers in it., am going to try and find something else when I go to the next town west of us Wed. 3 thrift store there.

It would have to be used with clear glass, though. The little solar thingy is on top of the light, so it has to be clear.

It's almost dark now, but the humidity is so bad my camera lens gets fogged.
Here's the best I can do and it doesn't glow through the top as I'd hoped, the solar panel blocks it, but even so, it's pretty.

Thanks, Robin.
You mentioned the top, it's an old paperweight that I had when I taught. It's actually a prism and refracts light. So it's pretty in sunlight too. You can see a sort of rainbow in the evening photo. In daytime, it creates rainbows in the sunlight.

I wander away from this thread for a little while and I miss so much. I'm thinking if that wooden light house is still at the thrift store next Monday I may get it.......have to think about that for a while. Maybe a solar light on top of that would work. Well, got some time to think about that. So many times when I go back the piece I wanted is gone, so better buy it when I see it.
