I have a prolif question. I have a few that are turning brown. I have been cutting those with part of the scape attached and putting it beside the mother plant. They do not have any roots yet Angry So is that the correct thing to do?

I would put them into a glass of water where the bottom of the prolif is just above the water line. That will coax it to produce roots that will reach into the water. But the water will have to be changed daily. I have never tried actually planting them in the dirt to get them to root.

I had seen someone post of FB that they did. I may try a couple and see how it goes. These are on Caught Red Handed. If it was a new intro I would try water first.

AARGH!!
It's even 'worse' than I thought..! Crying

There are THREE prolifs on 1 scape!
The one at the bottom is already so big, that I mistook it for a regular fan... Confused

and after taking another VERY good look at my other scapes I found another just like that! Blinking

In both cases it is a fan that produced TWO scapes at the same time, 1 in the middle of the fan and a 2nd one at the side.
The prolifs are growing on the scape that is on the side.
Is that always the case? Shrug!

The cultivar in both cases is Lavender White Eyes Lovey dubby

Mayo I think you would be fine to try and root those ones. They are quite large. I have also found that if you leave them on the scape there will often be a small portion of the scape that does not turn brown as it is supplying the prolif until it is removed.

I've had prolifs this year on Dragonfly Dawn, Diana's Peaches and Cream, Black Fury, Barracuda Bite, Green Arrow (looks a lot like Natalie's) and Queen of Green.

Mayo - Your photos were very good! Thanks for creating and posting them! I get that on occasion, too. Some plants are very prolific! I agree with James, carefully remove the scape and prolifs and plant them up!

I know more of mine will do that also once they get bigger and more established. I suppose some cultivars are more prolific than others?

Last year I had a prolif on Gunmetal which I put in water until it developed roots then planted in the ground. This year it bloomed! I also had a couple on Best of Friends and loads on Christmas Candles.

This year I have some on a couple of seedlings and so far one on Sungold Candy and Longfield's Beauty. One plant which always produces lots of prolifs is the good old Pink Damask. There is still time for others to form as our season is quite long and I have a number of re-bloom scapes forming.

Now that I'm clearing away the annuals I can properly see my DL's again Whistling
I found another prolif on another scape from Lavender White Eyes and I have 1 in Wilson Spider.

The scape of 1 of my 'twin-prolifs' was getting very brown and dry, right up to to prolifs... Blinking
So I've followed your advise and cut of the scape and put them in water with very dilluted feeding

Thumb of 2015-08-21/Mayo62/8a9d5a

Hopefully they will make roots soon and grow up to be nice additions to my garden Thumbs up

It depends. If they have any roots at all, I will usually just poke them in with the mother plant. I make sure to keep them well watered for a couple weeks after that.

I didn't plant any prolifs today but noticed some pods that were beginning to crack so I harvested those and have them drying. What is the standard amount of time to dry them before putting them in the fridge?

I also dry at room temp for 3 days. I came back home for a week away and harvested 65 pods yesterday and more to do today.
