chelle, its Meijer. Mine rang up at 12.34 but sign said 9.99 so had to go to service desk and get 2 something back. Today its half off 12.34 so a real bargain. Ace hardware wanted 14.99 for same size bag.

I have also used Milorganite except for this year. Just never got around to buying any and now I wish I had. I have a rabbit in my yard and I hardly ever get rabbits and I am finding that buds are disappearing on a lot of my real short scapes.

Sad Sorry to hear that, Cindy.

Our Meijer doesn't carry it, I checked. Lowe's has it, but it's not on sale. Bummer.

Our Fleet Farm has Milorganite for $6.95 a lot of the time.

I have used Milorganite for 15 years on Daylilies. It is a very weak fertilizer but more useful as a deer repellant. Just spread a handful around the plant. Will keep deer away for a few weeks or until the first real hard rain. When first planting new daylilies, I add a handful into the hole then set plant into the hole. Has not burned one plant yet.

I've used it for years. In addition to helping the DL it is one of the only things I've found to deter deer.

I love hearing about its duel purpose. I spread some on the side yard yesterday and could smell it then but not now. I was worried it would raise a real stink with the neighbors but i guess only in concentrated amounts does it really smell. Even tilled some into new daylily bed yesterday.

I moved a few Midred Mitchell fans to a more fertile bed...they didn't bloom for me this season. I added a few alfalfa pellets and some milorganite to the hole and I'm hoping for great things out of her next spring.

I bought M. Mitchell 3 years ago from Home Depot and has always bloomed for me but not as well this year as last year. Hoping to improve on that with milorganite regimen followed by Miracle grow.
I was surprised to find such a nice cultivar at a home improvement garden center. Saw the bloom and had to have it. Good luck with yours. Thumbs up

I've used Milorganite, but am now have been avoiding it due to heavy metals it contains.
Also wondering about the amount of prescription drug residue it might have.
And that stuff could stay in the soil for a long time.

There used to be a line of Milorganite that had the big red tomato on the bag that had metals removed,
but I've not seen that one for years.

I'm using Fertrell organic modestly. While it is expensive, it lasts a year.
Also use alfalfa pellets and add organic trace mineral soil additives like azomite or other rock dusts and seaweed.

Although in Florida, I'm lucky to have good soil initially,
plus have gotten truck loads of tree trimmings from the local tree crews,
bagged leaves and have grown various cover crops.

Blood meal to deters critters (takes a couple of weeks but works for quite awhile)

I know there are some heavy metals still left in Milorganite, and also some prescription drug residue, but it is very little, and is constantly monitored. The huge reduction in heavy metals was accomplished way back in the early 1980's with new processing methods. So there is no need for a special bag any more, all Milorganite has had the great majority of heavy metals removed.
Blood meal, bone meal...are they monitored for drug residue? Aren't animals these days pumped full of all sorts of drugs and wouldn't those be residual in them also?

Very interesting and informative conversation about Milorganite. I assumed that EPA had pushed safety laws with all of the fertilizers sold in the USA. (I hope so!)

Becky, if you want to wade through all this stuff, the EPA has a page about fertilizers here:
http://www.epa.gov/agriculture...

What may be useful is the Washington State Department of Agriculture Fertilizer Database where you can look up levels in fertilizers:
http://agr.wa.gov/PestFert/Fer...

There are several Milorganite fertilizer entries, here's one of them:

This post isn't about fertilizer, I hope that is OK, but about deer repellent. I have used Bobbex with success. I had a terrible deer problem before starting a Bobbex regimen, but with using Bobbex, I don't have any problem.
This thread is reminding me to buy more alfalfa! I have never used Milorganite, and am going to go back and read the thread again and look at the links.
