Is this an Orange-spotted Ladybeetle?
Thumb of 2015-07-26/Chillybean/31da1e

I tried getting a better angle, but the insect got away from me. Size... It was small, maybe 1/4 inch at most.
I want to make sure of the ID before putting it on my "Friendly Native Insect" list. Smiling

Thank you for your help.

It certainly looks like it, although there are look-alikes. Lady beetles are useful as they devour aphids and other bugs, with some species even devouring other Lady beetle larvae.

Thank you for the reply.

We appreciate the native varieties here for that reason, but the Asian variety gets the squish. After a big infestation of the Asian lady beetles shortly after we moved here, it was the one and only time we hired an exterminator. In following years, we just manually deal with them and now we are seeing native species we never noticed before.
