I just picked up my very first sedum for myself - Dragon's blood. It was on clearance at a roadside stand when I was visiting in PA and it made the flight with me back to Texas this weekend. I loved the look of the 'foliage' (is it still considered such on a succulent?) and was excited to find out it may bloom yet! Is there anything I should know about this sedum in Texas? We are suffering from an extended drought and the heat has been almost unbearable. - and are these attractive munchies for deer?

Hi Carey. You are going to love your Dragon's Blood. It is a very hardy sedum and may or may not bloom this year.
With the drought you have been having I would plant it in a container of some kind so you can move it with the weather conditions. Right now I would put it in light shade and water it as needed the same as you would your other garden perennials. It can be fairly drought tolerant once established, but still benefits from water during drought times.
Once it really gets going for you you can root cuttings to try in other locations to see how they will do in different conditions. : )

Almost all of them! I bought a new pot for it yesterday...not sure how it will work esthetically (it's an orange giant teacup looking planter) but that gives me a good idea where to start with it.

I am concerned about deer munching though. I used to have some ajuga...but apparently that was pretty tasty to the deer, and with the drought, they are literally coming onto our porches to sample.

I have never had the deer eat any of my semps or sedum. They eat other things, as do the rabbits. Just not these two types of plants.
Let me know how your sedum do in the deer department. We have so much for them to eat here they just never seem to be a problem.
Dragons blood goes green at times of the year, will be fun to see the color changes in your climate.

Fantastic! Well, I'm sure it will be sampled as pretty much everything else is dead, but since the front of the house would be the best spot out of the direct afternoon sun, I have a couple of fantastic spots. Hopefully it will help shade the soil for some of the other plants too.
