I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Even young they have a pretty lacey leaf. I hope they grow for you and get to bloom.

Mine pop up all over the place , mostly in the gardens I always leave a few but try not to let them go to seed, or they might take over Smiling
They don't like the shady woods and get eaten in the pasture , I guess that only leaves the gardens.

Around here I've seen it taking over vacant lots. Must be pretty invasive. This is not hard to grow, or it wouldn't be on invasive lists.

I grew it once. (the seeds were sold under the name Orlaya Grandiflora, but the same plant I believe). It was very pretty but I didn't let it set seed. I deadheaded it. It's been some years since I grew it, but I wintersowed it and it bloomed the first year.

Thumb of 2011-10-19/kqcrna/b1cbf2

I thought it was a hardy annual.

and I was speaking of D. carota, the mother of all carrots, which are also biennial. By the way, no one seems to know which Queen Anne sparked the common name. There are apparently a few options all of whom have their champions, but no definitive answer.

Huh, interesting. The flowers look the same. Very pretty! Anyway, the orlaya is very easy if wintersown. Sprouts and grows like a weed. Hilarious!

You can always chop it down or pull it out by the roots. Even then it has this carrotty smell...

Hmmm, didn't realize we were talking about D. carota....and apparently you can't buy seeds in WA. The seed companies sell Ammi majus as Queen Anne's Lace, but the plant is not as pretty as D. carota, IMHO.

I caused confusion with my comments about Orlaya. I swear the flowers look identical. So if you want the pretty flowers of QAL, consider trying Orlaya. It might be less invasive. I think you'll like it. Very pretty in bouquets, too.

The orlaya is very pretty, but the flower clusters don't appear to be quite as big as the D. carota? Wonder if it's considered a noxious weed here. The seed company I found in OR says they won't ship to WA. But I found them on another site with no strictures.
