What's the flowers of your Den. look like, Ursula. How large is the plant? I was able to hang my Den. closer to the edge of the oak canopy and it now gets more light and a bit more late afternoon sun. It didn't seem to mind the move (though I broke off one of its 2' inflorescences). I immediately put that flower-borne stem into a narrow-mouth vase of water, but after 24 hrs. the flowers began to fade. I guess these stems don't do well as cut flowers.

Ken, here are a couple of older pictures. I have to take a picture in the cage as it looks now, it is right now adding new canes. It gets to be a bit of a monster!
I should mention I grow it year around here in NJ with maximum sun exposure, and flood daily. There is no medium to speak of in that metal contraption it is anchored in.
Mine is in a 12", wire basket, and it has (what's left of) the same orchid media it was potted up in 7 years ago. The canes are 4' tall and the inflorescences another 2' long. Mine has a handful of new growth and all are well rooted. I will have to begin separating those from the "Mother" plant soon and pot them up. I have to control the size/weight of this plant as best I can and divisions are the only way I know to do this.

Awarded today in St. Louis. C. guttata 'Ina Joanne' HCC/AOS (C. guttata x C. guttata v. alba) and Cycnoches herrenhusanum 'Peggy's Delight' AM/AOS. Grown by MOS members. Awesome. The guttata has a wonderful scent that accompanied me on the drive to St. Louis. Both of the plants are stunning.
My Vanda tessellata is blooming again, which is nice. Unfortunately the growing top of the plant shows a damaged last growth. Now I really hope I will see a keiki coming up soon or this plant might be toast. I see this on Neofinetias and their hybrids every so often, the top dies and the plant forms a keiki.
I had to move one of my two large Vanda into more shade. It began to show signs of heat prostration. The V. Sunlight 'Orange' is still in almost full sun and seems to be doing well. I will keep an eye on it for signs of too much sun/heat.

I think sometimes moisture get trapped in the growing tip. While we were on vacation, I had the cage set on a timer to water everyday over the top of the cage around noon time for 15. min. That worked well, but perhaps this one was not drying up sufficiently. I am only guessing.
I water my two large Vanda every day and during this extreme heat (what else is new down here in the South), I am watering mine morning and late afternoon. I am watering with copious amounts of water but only perhaps 15 sec. at a time. How does your upstairs greenhouse drain, Ursula?

Ken, I catch most of the water in large trays, and in fish tanks underneath some of the plants hanging in the center and the remainder flows outside through holes specifically kept open for that purpose. Those openings are placed along the long west side and front/south side of the greenhouse. The greenhouse floor has a tiny pitch away from the house wall and there is a linoleum floor.
Some new blooms out in the OC. First up is Grt. Why Not (Gur. aurantiaca x Bro. sanguinea). Pardon the quality of these pics but the bright red was hard to control tonight.
Then there is Bc. Marg Putman (C. intermedia x Bc. Morning Glory) and I found a bunch of scale on it. I fixed that problem before hanging it back up. It has really adapted well to wood mount.
Rby. Golden Tang (Rlc. Waikiki Gold x Bc. Richard Mueller) is back blooming again. It is really getting to be a large plant.
Finally, another Richard Mueller cross, Bc. Hoku Gem 'Freckles' (C. Tangerine Jewel x Bc. Richard Mueller)
We had heavy rain about 10:00 PM last night but it was rain free today. The lake has dropped about 6 inches and is right even with the walkway on my neighbor's dock. My neighbor told my we have had over 30 inches of rain in August alone.

I saw these beautiful Vandas at Publix but I can't justify dropping $39.99 for one Vanda.
These Vandas are kept in hurricane jars with some water soaking the roots but not the base of the Vanda. I went to he Vendor's website and this vendor is located at Homestead, Fl. Website claims Vanda will rebloom 3 to 5 months and there is a pruning that the recommend to encourage new growth that will result to new blooms. I got to go back to the site this weekend to re-read it.
