Got this today from a local hybridizer who remarried years ago and now spends much of her time in Ohio where her husband has a house.
Her house here sits on several acres of land bordered by forest and highway off in the distance. She used to have 2 big fields of daylilys but are now gone and turn to grass.
I drove up and no one in sight but the shed door was open and music playing on the radio with many potted daylily starts and other various perennials. Saw this in bloom and tag said RUFFLED PEACHES. Out came the smart phone and AHS database was in my hand (love technology). AHS told me pink bitone with yellow throat i believe.
Well now i am hating this situation because i don't like not knowing who i am getting but this plant has pulled me in its grip of beauty and just sits there staring up at me and there is the faintest whisper in the wind that says, take me home with you.
So my wallet is out with a mind of its own and a 5 magically appears and finds its way under some garden shears in the shed atop an old swivel chair that has seen better days.
On the drive out down the long gravel driveway i wonder where i will find the room for this one. Especially after i had just gotten so many free clumps in the past 2 days. Oh well always room for 1 more. And 1 more after that and so on.
So has anyone out there seen her before or maybe you grow one that could be her twin.
I think they should put daylilys that need naming on the outside of fertilizer bags or bags of peat maybe. If you know who i am please call or text it would say with your best guess or send pictures to.....

Oops, sorry folks. In all my narrative i forgot some important info. The bloom is 5 inches with an average scape height of 21 inches. I got 5 nice fans in a 2 quart pot with 4 sturdy scapes. All her potted daylily are 5 bucks.

You must be talking about Lana. I have known her since 1992 when she primarily grew bearded irises.

Yes and i have only caught her in Fort Wayne once in the past year. I credit her with starting my interest and addiction to daylilys. I still have many cultivars i bought from her 10 years ago and can name them. We have a few of her seedlings as well and they are tall. One is at least 4 feet and very good bloomer.

She just leaves plants around for people to pick up? How do you know she wanted to sell this one? It seems just a bit audacious to me...

Well usually there is someone there. But last year i got one or two and just left the money with a note saying if i owed more i would return to pay and never heard from her. Saw her later in the year and nothing was said about it. Only a select few know its even there and most of her plants are long gone. Had it been one of her more exotic perennials i would have just tried another day but i know her daylilys are 5 and seedlings 3 or 4.
This was a big enough start and great looking bloom so thought i would roll the dice on it. Anyway we do not have a big plant thief problem in our area.
