August here in Georgia is tough on vegetables.Triple-digit temps drive us all to seeking a little shade. The spring vegetables are long gone, summer vegetables are going into intermission, snd corn is in the freezer. But there are a few that love it, the foremost being cowpeas, butter beans, and okra.

I could live on every one of these, and do during the summer. White acre ( we used to call them conk peas when I was little, I have no idea why) are my favorite, with lots of snaps. The first picture...well thats heaven in a bowl. I also like zipper peas. Any of these, mixed with that nice tender okra, throw in some butterbeans, green or speckled.
I find I can only get these in a small area of the country. I live in N. central fl. If you go S. to Orlando even, they will look at you like your nuts. Same with green peanuts. When I moved to Va., that was to far north, they had never had them either. I feel so lucky to be back where I can get them!!! I have to drive about 30 minutes N. to a farm that grows all of these, you have to reserve, they pick every day, and will shell if you want. I hope they never stop. I can grow okra at home, but the others take too much space.
