I bought a Shelterlogic 10X13 greenhouse last year for under $350.00. I really like it and have bought another one this year for 1/2 price as they're being discontinued. I've attached a photo of it.

Welcome to All Things Plants, Chris @chris1948 ! (1948 was a good year, might mean something entirely different to you, but it was the year I was born Big Grin )

I personally think that type of GH is a huge bang for the bucks; a few years back I bought two, 7x15' hoop houses, similar to yours but not the same brand. Although the covers on mine deteriorated pretty quickly (apparently weren't UV protected), I used some wood framing and plastic sheeting to recover one of them, and turned the other one (minus one section, so it's only 10' long) into a "hoop trellis." I hope you get as much enjoyment from yours as I have from mine -- I've already decided that once my Rion GH gets past the point of no return (it's presently 11 years old and falling apart bit by bit) I will replace it with something similar to what you have there; I only use it for starting plants in the spring and for the price I could buy 10 of them for what I paid for the Rion !

Thanks for the welcome, yep, 1948 was a great year for me too. Although looking back at it I don't feel so great at 66. I had to buy one as last year I had so many plants and we just could not fit them into the house anymore for the winter. I've now got about twice as many thus the reason I bought the 2nd one and the fact that it was 1/2 price. If you noticed the propane tanks out front I have no electricity out to it so bought what I though would be a sufficient heater from Lowes. It worked pretty well though to save on propane I had to use it on the low setting and hope for the best as far as the temperature went. This year with the other one up I plan on getting a generator to put between them for running a box fan or two in each to circulate the air and some lights. Probably will get a larger heater for the one containing the orchids also. Here are a couple of photos of how it looked this fall and winter.

You have lots of great plants in there ! Thumbs up

Being in a slightly ( Hilarious! ) different climate than you, right now my hoop house has some pepper and tomato plants growing, hoping they will still be carrying on for a while longer than the ones out in the garden. Later on I'll put a few cold-hardy plants in, lettuce, chard, corn salad -- they will usually still be going until close to the end of the year without heating at all -- and some will start growing again early in the spring.

Lots of possibilities for using a greenhouse ! Smiling

Welcome Chris1948 from yet another 1948 fan.

Interesting Greenhouses and prices. Love that Angel Trumpet. In Hawaii everything is "plus shipping" which increases our cost. I buy the Costco Car Canopies with heavy metal tubular frame for $269. I then sell the cover for $110 (lots of folks have covers that wear out) and then my frame cost is $159. Just have to buy the plastic cover to throw over the 10 x 20 frame. In Hawaii we don't have to worry about closing the ends. I use a greenhouse to protect plants from excessive rain which can reach 150 inches a year in our area.

Great idea about selling the cover, Microb -- I don't know if that would have occurred to me! Those ready-made frames are a real bargain, IMO Thumbs up

Thanks all, that's a great idea about the car cover although I don't think a regular plastic cover would last very long here in the Texas dry heat. I've had the Trumpets for about 4yrs now. The ones blooming were in the winter. They're outside now and I have to water them every day. The bloomed really nice in the spring but now that the heat has set in they're not doing so much. I did manage to get two seed pods so far with about 30 seeds or so all together. I planted some Datura seeds that I've had for awhile this spring and I've got six of those coming up. They're from the plant pictured below. I need to report them again soon as they're outgrowing the 2nd pots I've had them in. These are from 2 years ago.

Those are gorgeous blooms, Chris!

Quite a few years back I tried growing a Datura plant; it grew quite well, too -- and then I moved it into the garage when the weather started getting too cold, and the aroma was rather overwhelming, to say the least! Rolling my eyes.

So pretty! I need to get mine into the ground. They are asking for too much water while in those pots.

I'm originally from Illinois, I lived there until I went in the Army in '68. After living in Texas for so many years I could never live up north again.

I'm putting my pots into th-e ground so I can pull them up in the winter. our winters go either way, hard freeze or mild cool temps. We never know what we will get here. But at least there is warning. Hence, the greenhouse.

I am growing a regular Datura in my front border for many years. I just snapped a quick picture, it is not one of the pretty cultivars though. It comes back year after year from roots and seeds, no problem here in zone 6b. This very sunny spot is facing South.
