Should these names be updated in the database? There are no search results for Plerandra. TIA!

Catalogue of Life shows all of the Plerandra species as synonyms for species of Schefflera. It's usually more reliable than the three sources you cite, so I'd be inclined to wait until it changes these classifications.

Thank you for that link. It's fascinating information. I'm glad the author is working with someone from Kew because Kew is the Catalogue of Life's source for its Schefflera and Plerandra listings. I hope they complete their research soon and make the appropriate changes in classification.

Mr. Plunkett, author of the article, is cited as a source for the 2013 Plerandra info at the tropicos link but the article is dated about 6 weeks ago. What would have been researched then vs. now? A diff kind of genetic testing? Does that mean that some other already-genetically-renamed plants could be renamed again?

Yes, I suppose a different kind of genetic test could override his view that most of the Schefflera species belong tp 5 other genera. And it could go in either direction, keeping them all under Schefflera or splitting it up into 10 or 15 genera instead of 5. We can only wait and see what Kew does with its Catalogue of Life listings.
