Y'all are wonderful with all the comments and information from your experiences with Dragonfly Dawn. It is truly a favorite of mine and I am delighted to read that it is a highly regarded addition to your daylily collections! Thumbs up

And yes! I give out acorns for performance information shared about each of the Daylily of the Day cultivars! But know that your information is priceless, in MY opinion ... so thanks to each and every one of you! Thank You!

Gerry - So sorry to hear that your first one didn't make it. I hope the new one survives and does great. Smiling

I am very pleased to hear how well it grows from a double fan to many fans in a year or two. Thumbs up Thumbs up

Dragonfly Dawn has done very well here on the Gulf Coast, always a nice bloom, pod and pollen fertile, also increases very well.

I think they say 8 but, I live 1/2 mile from the water so it seems like 9 to me.

This pic is from 4/6/15. Beautiful plant. Really tough year for this garden! This plant stopped blooming in late May and never reached 36". The tallest scape was 28".

OH MY GOD how did I miss this post??? Well so much for not posting here much anymore. Sometimes I get so busy I forget to check posts. Dragonfly Dawn is my favorite daylily. I kept getting more of it each year since 2012. I now have FIVE clumps of it since it sets pods so easily and I sell seeds. I think I have enough now, this year I got about 130 pods on it. This was a banner year for me with 1000 pods total, the most ever for my little back yard garden.

I'm older and not much energy anymore to plant seedlings. But a couple of years ago I planted 12 seeds from Dragonfly Dawn x Waves of Joy. This spring I had a gorgeous one bloom that had a green cast to it. The pattern wasn't that in your face but it had beautiful pastel colors. It is very difficult for me to photograph it and capture the green overlay. But here is my best effort. I actually sold some seeds from it on the auction.

I have seen some beautiful seedlings from Dragonfly Dawn x Cobalt Rings from two different people on Facebook.

So here are some of my favorite pictures of Dragonfly Dawn. I keep taking more of it every year since it is such a showoff.

Dot - Beautiful photos of Dragonfly Dawn and many of it's registered children.

You are in good company! I, too, love Dragonfly Dawn (and it's children). I don't own any of them .... yet. But I am growing a lot of seedlings from DD. Unfortunately, a DD x DD cross I originally grew out, did not fair well. Out of 4 seedlings, only 1 is currently alive. Not sure why, but lost them one by one. Seedlings around them are doing fine, so I've no idea what caused their demise. Perhaps crossing DD with itself makes for a weaker plant. I will say though, that DD crossed with other cultivars seems to be producing some healthy seedlings. Time will tell..... Thanks for sharing your lovely photos and great evaluation!!! Thank You!

I do not own Dragonfly Dawn, but I do own numerous seedlings of this cultivar. It makes a wonderful parent to the majority of children it is capable of creating. I had started a thread not too long ago about the children of this Dragonfly Dawn:

I got this one in the fall of 2017 from Pick-a-Daylily here in Lincoln. I was told that it's a bit tender here in zone 5b, so I planted it on the south side of the house, protected from the north wind and in as much sun as possible.
The fans came back small this year and I had one scape (about 14" tall) and a whopping bud count of two. I'm hoping that moving it to a location with better soil (new bed) and more consistent watering will improve the bloom quantity.

I planted Dragonfly Dawn in the Spring of 2022. No bloom this year and in October, it was still at 2 fans, with a slight case of rust. Sure hope this survives the winter!
