Since fall isn't that far away I thought I would start thinking about mulching for the cold. I was wondering what those of you that have a cold winter with lots of snow use for that buffer on top of the soil?

I use a cedar mulch here but I am sure others will have better ideas
our winters were really cold the last couple of years and that is followed by tons of snow
and the lilies did fine for the winter time
I use a red mulch since it looks good....

but others will have other ideas I am sure....

I use chopped leaves, mainly oak, then compost the material when removed in spring.

chopped leaves is a great idea too
I use the mulch since it looks nice and keeps down the weeds in the springtime
but the leaves are cheaper way to do this for sure.....

The last few years I have just taken the leaves from my backyard when I rake them up from the trees and use that. Was just wondering if there was anything better.
